Procedural content in TL II

Postby Zidders » Fri Sep 09, 2011 6:40 am

Great article on procedural content in TL II from blogger Raddevon over at Raddevon.com
http://raddevon.com/procedural-stories- ... hlight-ii/

I love how it starts. "At Runic Games, if it isn’t randomized, they don’t even want to hear about it. The office restrooms change sexes several times per day, each employee takes a new desk at random intervals, and the water cooler is just as likely to spit out boiling oil as H2O. " lol

I wonder if the pay is randomized as well or do you have to gamble for the pay. I can see Monty Hall's Let's Make a Deal.

An older article perhaps, but still interesting.

I note that back then, they mentioned the outdoor areas in each Act were averaging about 14 chunks, whereas now it's around ~22-23.

Newer, bigger, better, and with 4x + the amount of content as the original, all for around $20. Sheesh.

That's what Frank Kern refers to as 'stacking the cool', i.e.: "Hey, here's that Ford Fiesta you were looking to purchase...and while we're at it, we're going to throw in a brand-new Lamborghini Diablo ( ;) ), for FREE!"

Ah yes, the old: "Or, you could have what's behind Door Number Three!" I remember the write-ups in the original Dragon magazine about the perils of running a MH-style campaign...

Also why they're sometimes referred to as 'Monty Haul' campaigns. ;)

omg monty haul hehee

Gosh..so old school.

I still have my copy of Dragon that has the story about the Nexxus Chainsword Massacre lol. Bought it fresh off the rack waaay back when a place called Alternate Realities was the only place in Rhode Island where you could find D&D stuff. There used to be church protests outside his shop almost every week lol. Good times, good times.

And let's not forget in some of the really early issues of 'Dragon' there was J.D. Webster's 'Finieous Fingers' too! :)

But I wonder how many folks on the forum ever remember reading 'The Strategic Review', the forerunner to 'Dragon'?

Good times. Good times. Those lazy, hazy, crazy 'seventies!

Been away for summer so now school is back have been catching up on what I've missed which includes GamesCom.

Gaming Lives previewed Torchlight 2 while there and gave the game an award to boot, exciting times!

The MMO release date estimate is just a financial Guestimation on part of Perfect World, given under pressure in a teleconference about finances. Torchlight 2 probably won't get a release date until a few weeks before release. The same happened with Torchlight 1, just that time no one cared.
