Wardrobing The Zealot

Postby Phanjam » Sat Sep 17, 2011 12:00 am

Update (29 Sept, 2011)
I think we can label this experiment a success :D ! Thanks largely to SixShotOverdrives work on new mesh pieces for his base playable-Zealot mesh, we have been able to piece together 11 complete armor sets for a Zealot chracter! All hail mesh-master SixShot!

Ive placed the complete wardrobe into a simple new-class character which Ive called the Spiritist (the backstory, based heavily on Jupiahs excellent idea for it, is that the Spiritists are a race that was corrupted by the ember to transform them into the Zealots). you can download the Spiritist from RGF.

Pls remember right now the Spiritist is just a showcase for the Zealots new wardrobe. She has no class-specific skills, only the shared passive skills. And the wardrobe textures are NOT final (a lot of them are still my crappy work) since I felt it was more important to get the wardrobe-able Zealot out quickly. Arkham has already started re-working some of the textures and Im going to try re-texturing as well (time permitting), but Im sure theres a lot of other very capable artists in the community and Im still hoping some of them will do some of the re-texturing as well :)

I really hope we all have fun with this baby and please fee free to take the Spiritist mod and use it as a base for your own class-mods!

Original-original Post, Sept. 17, 2011
I decided to move this topic out from its previous thread onto its own.

In this project I am trying to make a complete wardrobe for SixShotOverdrives Zealot mesh. Historically, SixShot made this mesh to fix the Zealots skeleton to work with the existing animations of the regular TL classes. It works wonderfully in that regard, but it was not yet wardrobe-able.

I cannot thank SixShot enough for making additional mesh-pieces for the Zealot, which Im now mashing-up to produce the armor-set meshes. Im naming the sets the same as the 12 Vanquisher sets, only so that they can work with the units/items already existing in the game.

Anyone is welcome to take these wardrobe sets and make textures for them!
Im only able to push out 1 or 2 of these new armor-sets a week due to time constraints :( and thats without any texturing. So I thought itd be better to just make the sets available immediately for other artists to texture and share with the community more quickly :)

So below are the sets Ive been able to make so far. Theyve been tested in Dushos mesh viewer tool but not yet in-game.

1. Zealot Valkyrie Set

2. Zealot Assassin Set

3. Zealot Spiked Set

4. Zealot Plate Set

5. Zealot Heavy Plate Set

6. Zealot Chain Set

7. Zealot Buckled Set

8. Zealot Shadow Set

9. Zealot Leather Set

10. Zealot Heavy Leather Set

11. Zealot Gunslinger Set

EDIT (25 SEP 2011)

Okidokey, thats all the armor sets for the Zealot :) I am now going to try to get all of these to work properly with the games wardrobing system, so that shell equip all armors like a regular character. Check back peeps!

Damn. I don't think I show our modding community enough appreciation. Even tho I don't play the game anymore, Torchlight will have some pretty damn long legs in the years to come not only because it's a great game, but because it has SO many mods for it. Seriously, thank you, modders. I have such a huge amount of respect for the modding community, I just wish I had the talent and skill to contribute some of my own stuff. My one handed 2handed rifle mod got lost somewhere after 1.12 lol only mod ive ever made.

velari, you are normally so unflappable, that making you happy makes me ecstatic!

Zidds, your thanks and kind words are more than enough for me and I think most other modders would feel the same :D

I need to try my own approach in modding the zealot. I need a succubus like the one in diablo 1 That uses the blood star projectile spell. But man Phanjam thats awesome. I`m definely picking up all 4!

Thanks Gluem! Eventually (the plan is) there'll be 12 sets just like the standard classes, then I'll pack them all up into a vanilla class mod for anyone to use as a base :)

P.S. I just now update the OP to include the Heavy Plate set :)

How about some all over armor? Sorry, I think half naked females in fantasy games where the men wear three metric tons of plate are silly. What's the point in wearing gear at all, if you're so magically inclined as to not need armor.

That's where the inevitable naked mod comes in.

But yeah, I always found that a bit weird as well. In torchlight, that mostly comes down to the skin though. The Destroyer, for example, uses the same torso section (or near enough) for the default and vulture sets.

I am working on new bits for her, mostly trying to fit armour plating to her dragon legs, but any suggestions will be taken on board.

Darktails, when I saw your post I tried revising the texture to raise the cut of her bikini bottom. It'll work of course, but it doesn't really "add armor".

Zidders, you make an excellent point. I just hesitate to commit torso armor on this mod's timeline as I don't have the modeling skill to do it, so it would have to be volunteered by other community members.

SixShot, your generosity is overwhelming! Of course we all know it's volunteer-work and won't expect any timeline (or even completion) on this. I'll take you up on your offer and send you some suggestions :)

In the meantime I plan to finish all 12 sets using the current base mesh (no torso armor) but with adjusted textures for her bikini. It isn't too difficult to swap-out the chest submeshes (if)when they become available :)

Further comments/reactions very welcome :)

Lol, I was kidding about the crotch armor, but if someone would teach me how to do this stuff (tutor me? I can pay in good karma for your time xD), I would gladly take requests or help you guys out since I have a ton of free time.

Currently I'm reworking the textures for the Valkyrie set (since getting model modifications in would probably take too much time, I'm basically doing the chest and legs WoW-style, meaning I just paint all the detail in and it's basically a set of skin-tight, semi-revealing plate armor :P). Hopefully I'll get enough done to show an ss soon.
