An Update from Travis Baldree

I was also a late bloomer when it came to Torchlight. I bought it during a Steam sale and never touched it (Like many game I buy :? ) but I wanted to play a good random dungeon and fired it up.. I was in love, I had to beat it and I still play it!

But then I saw a video for Torchlight 2 and started drooling. The next thing I know I'm scouring the interweb for ANYTHING about it's release date, that's when I saw that it was coming out this year.. and soon!!

Needless to say, I was disappointed when I heard that it was going to be late, but seriously, life is short.. I can get some extra fishing in, take a nice evening walk.. even spend some time with the wife / kids / pets while I wait.. so in the end Runic is doing me a favor

To the people hating.. Just think for a moment "What if you found out you had only a month left to live" would you really troll a game developer and it's forums over a release time frame? Time for you to do a little living outside this box and remember that you never know when you may "punch out" of this life, so make the best of it, relax and don't sweat the small stuff that you can't control.

No hippy dippy, old man advice intended, just wanted to put this into perspective :D

I'll be straight with you. I care WAY more about the quality of the game, and what people think of it, than about how many copies it sells. My standards for success are to make something we are proud of, and to sell sufficient copies to survive and do something else that we want to do and that people hopefully want to play. That's pretty much it.

Came to the forums after listening to Flux's podcast earlier this week. Bought TL1 off Steam after reading this. If you release TL2 tomorrow im gunna be pissed :)

I do not understand how anyone can get bored with Skyrim unless you have done everything in it. All quests, locations explored, story, hit level 50, etc.

I'd rather wait until it's ready, stable and polished.
I'm currently engrossed in Minecraft, Skyrim and a renewed interest in Freelancer (with mods) on a multiplayer server. That'll keep me busy for a while :)

Take your time.

So.... Travis,
When "might" Torchlight 2(for the PC) be released? 2012? And if so...when..in 2012?

Umm... because the "minimum specs" for any Bethesda product is a top of the line PC from 5 years in the future?

Lies, update your crap. You need to update specs every 3-5 years and it can't be minimal. That's the cost of PC gaming.

Are you back in 2001? The min specs on Skyrim are pathetically low. I'm not making fun of you, but instead Bethesda. The specs are VERY low.

I, however, will make fun: You can play Skyrim just fine (medium settings) on a four+ year old system. Honestly if you don't buy/update your PC every four or five years you have no one to blame but yourself. You can get a pretty solid set up for like $1000 tops right now -- so that's $250ish per year. If you don't have that it's time to cancel your internet because I don't even know how you pay your monthly bills.

If I may, I will agree with you about updating every 4-5 years, technically 3-5. However, that last bit is harsh and unnecessary.

If you're gaming, be happy if the parts last more than 3 years.

Surely, they are made much better then that? That sounds like poor quality. I expect computer things to last 6+ years.

I may be helping to take the conversation on an unrelated tangent, but I'm also a 3-4 year computer person. By then whatever you have is outdated, and quite often the combination of leaving it on for too long (many people never really turn their computer off I think), heat, dust, and natural degradation of little things like glue or whatever tends to end up with things breaking. Computers that last for 6+ years without any parts being replaced probably aren't being used for very much or have problems.

Heh...my comps almost 6 years old and still works fine. Actually, did you know that the more you turn your computer on and off, the worse it is for it? Starting your computer and shutting it down is what causes the most wear and tear on your system (specifically, your hard drive). It's also what causes the most power drain. You actually use less energy and cause less wear and tear on your system by leaving it on all the time in power saver mode, letting your computer 'sleep' when you're away or asleep.
