Unique weapons comp

Postby Ulvaak » Fri Jan 27, 2012 12:12 am

Nothing offical of course, but since the set armour comp is done (I'm sure Runic will announce the winner(s) soon), just thougth I suggest this so us fans can have something else to think about rather than endless release date speculation...

It's just tossing ideas around really, it'll be easier than the set armour comp to render and add to the game. I'm interested to see people's ideas, we have such a creative bunch here on the forums. Lets say we'll close the comp on the last day of the Feb, not sure how the winner(s) will be decided or if they would get anything at this stage...maybe someone at Runic might notice and even slip something special into the game for us forum folk :) Otherwise, I guess a couple of weapons shouldn't be that hard to mod in anyway...

So what we are going to need is the name of the weapon, what type of weapon it is, the stats and effects of the weapon (optional), and some lore behind the weapon (optional), picture in spoiler tags (also optional but would be useful for modding purposes)

E.g.
Name: Forgiveness
Type: Two handed battle axe
Stats and effect*: 20% of converting enemy to fight on your side
Lore*: Deacon Hopps was one of the earliest missionary to set foot on the Estherian Steppes and bought forgivness to quiet a number of the local tribes while spreading the light of the empire. Forgivness was last with deacon Hopps on his very last mission trip from which he is still yet to return.

*Optional

One of my favourite weapons from warhammer quest!

Hellfire Blade (1-hand)
Each hit sets the enemy and all adjacent models on fire (including the wielder of the blade) for 6d6 damage. (600% weapon damage).

Forged in the fires of hell, this blade burns with the hungry fires of damnation. It seeks flame and death wherever it can and is imbued with dark cursed magic that constantly finds itself a new hand to wield it. Always there are those seeking the power and believing that they will be the one to master it. Always there are left those charred corpses, holding a pure shining blade, waiting to be found by a new hand.

You know, you could have just gone along with the spirit of the thread. The op has nothing to do with Runic, so why post about something the op has no control over, anyways?

Name:Inspiration
Type:Helm
Lore:One of Deacon Hopps most valued possession was a rugged leather cap he called 'inspiration'. A tough leather cap on the outside that was soft and supple on the inside, it had been made for him by a gratefull villager after one of the deacons speeches had inspired a travelling engineer to build a well for their village.
(*Shrugs* I liked the name ^_^)

Since this is a basic forum base ideas slinging match that may be worked on by modders later on and not Runic themselves, I think we might even get away with suggestions from other trademark titles... although not totally original, if it's a good idea, it's a good idea...

So if you are thinking Schaefer's Hammer, or Frostmourne, or Mjolnir, I think you can suggest it here as well (it would be neat to see if you can come up with some original effects and/or lore that ties into torchlight though). We've already had a suggestion from Warhammer, and my initial example was actually a passing reference from a Terry Pratchett novel.

Are there other legendary or unique items you would like to see in the game original or otherwise?

I like it Zidders :) and in honor of your support, I think a weapon call Zidders' Revenge would be sweet :) In terms of effect or lore, I just need to check with you about the way you best like to wreak vengeance... turn people in to a pony for a short duration? do you prefer a melee or a range weapon?

I, however, am, and think it's awesome. Tho..lifesteal? Is this where I make a really horrible 'Great White' reference?

Ulvaak, i'm not really the 'revenge' type, but i'll play along. I guess if I could have an item that fit the kind of revenge I can see myself taking, it would be an item that heals the wearer as well as those around him...as well as the attacker. It also causes the attacker to become placid, forgetting their rage and hatred.

I know. Shitty mechanic, isn't it?

I'm planning on making an Outlander melee build. That said, Erich already got my unique weapon requests, so there's not much I can do at this point lol.

I still think Webbstre should get his Grammar Hammer.

It could work...but perhars Zidders' revenge might not be the best name. Maybe Zidders' Pacifier is a better fit. A mace or a wand type, no damage but heals on every strike, pushback, 10% chance to turn enemies to non targetable non hostile background NPCs that wander around the map.

Instead of the singing sword, this hammer randomly spouts grammar rules like "If a verb follows to, it is called an infinitive phrase and is not the main verb. You will find the main verb either before or after the infinitive phrase." everytime you pick it up in your inventory.

When enemies are struck, it leaves them temporarily stuned, confused and halves their damage.

No, why ? Make enemies peaceful and unaggresive then change weapon to cannon and smash them to pieces

I like the name. It made me giggle. Make it a staff. Two handed weapon that doubles as an instrument. A didgeridoo, to be precise. Playing it stuns the opponent and causes them to lose all aggression and also heals the group.

Ok, this would make a great weapon for someone who wants to play a non-violent support role. Make it a short range weapon. Of course, you'd have to give creatures a chance. If it doesn't stun them, it merely knocks them back. This would give the player an incentive to run into the middle of things, knocking a path through mobs and eliminating mobs without actually killing anything.

Of course, making something non-violent would give you the same xp as killing them, since you effectively removed them from the game. I'm also thinking a boomerang instead of a glaive, call it 'Zidders Walkabout', since it takes a journey and then returns. Have it knock opponents out or something.

Gosh...i'd love to think up a way of doing a totally violent game that doesn't actually involve killing anything lol
