Diablo 3 Release Date: May 15th

Postby Webbstre » Thu Mar 15, 2012 5:14 am

I believe this says it all: http://us.battle.net/en/int

Two months from today... Now the question is, how will this affect Torchlight 2? Co-existence may not be a problem but I can't see either company wanting the two games to come out within a week of each other :P

$90 USD ? Is it just me or did everyone get the same price for digital download. Hell in no way I can afford that price for the coming 1 or 2 years for a single game :?

Onto TL2...and Krater...and BL2...and PoE.....and GD....and well I can get so much stuff for $90 :x

The best thing is always to release after, than before I think. People will rush and burn D3 in first month, and will get bored of it because of too big expatation. What, 90? I think its 60$? Can you post a link?

Oh please, please release it on the same day (if it's ready by then of course)

Not just for funzies, I'm sure Runic would get a tonne of free press for such a ballsy move. ;)

My region is Asia so it defaulted the currency to Singaporean Dollar somehow and then it shows the total in USD :!:

90$... about 60-something € eh?
About 50€ is what I've payed for the past "big games", I think Call of Duty costs 60€ on Steam.

I must say that I am getting a bit curious on when TL2 is going to be released. I mean, first it was summer 2011, that broke and I can understand the reasons. Then it was 2011 for sure, unless someone died. When they pushed it up for "polishing" I thought that it would take 2 months for them.. since it was polishing.. not remake whole act or similar.

So.. are they really in a polishing phase or are they still building the game? I had hoped for an april release of Torchlight but we are already half way through mars so.. I guess it will release after D3.

Which is sad.. I believe that they could have benefited strongly by releasing 2+ months ahead of D3. But close by or short after can't be a good market decision. Thus my guess is they will release 1-2 months after D3.

Although if D3 really ticks of persons at release... they might seek something else and then TL2 could have stood there in a shiny & colorful armor!

Where the hell in the world are you? Pre-purchase was only $60 for me.

I'm still a little disbelieving that there's a strong relational correlation that could made if both companies releasing close together. It's not like a movie release where they have a limited run or window of opportunity. Once the games are released they have a long distribution lifetime compared to the good ol' days. I'm sure the sales numbers might look odd and there would certainly be some short term effects of releasing close together. However in the long term I think anything strange will eventually smooth out and show the real story. Whatever the case I'd be surprised if D3 didn't blow TL2 out of the water in every way possible regarding sales. It's just the difference in nature between the two companies. As much as we all love Runic they're not on the same level as running their own dedicated convention. I'm sure we're all hoping for a good David vs. Goliath story but I think that will be more in the eye of the beholder.

I'm pretty certain the base 'Diablo 3' will retail for $59.99US... but then will come the multiple expansions, likely ranging in price from $29.99US to $39.99US, and over time players - cheerfully plucked with all the glee of Kotick's partial reinforcement scheme - will shell much more than $90.00SGD over time ;)

Oh, and then there's the lure of real money auction house....

Quick, change regions to something worth more than a dollar! :P

Mine says 60, but my account is still set to North America. Ironic, since these days I only ever seem to play Blizzard games with Australians :P

Wow. Did anyone try opening the image I posted in the Spoiler tags ? It's more likely a glitch, but I am not lying. And haven't bought it either. $60 is something I can't afford on a single game right now. Not atleast the end of Fall, when I'll be able to afford BL2 which takes priority over D3 for me anyway

I agree somewhat.. a lot of people who like Torchlight will like D3, and a lot of people who like D3 will like Torchlight. But there is a also persons who will be happy enough for a looong time with Diablo 3. I never cared about other games while I played D2. The reason why I bought Torchlight was because it was cheap as hell and a Diablo clone.. I would not have bothered if D3 had just been released, no matter how many trailers they would have shown me.

I think TL2 will do more than well! But I think they could have cashed in a little extra by releasing a bit before D3 to catch those that will not care about anything but D3 in the Hack'n Slash department for the next couple of years.

With that said.. I want them to feel completely done with TL2 before they release (GO RUNIC!) and I wish all developers did the same!... :) but I am just speculating over the effect from releasing after/during/right before D3 might cause.

Diablo 3 has launch day - Goodbye TL2 and Runic

May 15th. Thats in two months. You really blew it Runic. If only you had half competent team that would have released TL 2 in February.

sigh, though I'll still buy both of them, I dont think I'll play TL2 that much unless there's something wrong with my network. Was looking forward to enjoy TL2 so much.

If you're going to complain the very least you could do is spell competent right. I don't care when TL 2 comes out but I will definitely be picking it up. Although with the additional pre-order date for Guild Wars 2 on April 10th and beta events with a release who knows when I might very well be short on time.

This post is an example of how people can be really stupid when it comes to videogames, prefering one game to another just because of the game's name and a stupid thing like a release date.

So tell me, if TL2 came before D3, would you buy only TL2?

Fixed the spelling error =)

Just waiting now for Runic to come out and delay TL2 indefinitely ...

See them going down the same route as games like Spellforce 2 and JoWooD. Sad in a way - but also happy to see that game developers can not get away with delaying games forever when they have already announched the year it will be launched in.

And considering that Diablo 3 is free with 1 year sub of WOW... There is just no competition. PPL will rather pay 1 month for WOW and skip TL2. SPecially if they are playing WOW anyway.
