Dont worry Worm.. that sounds more offensive than I want lol... so yes.. ahem Mr. Worm, we do have a no blood check box that removes the gibs and blood.. I cant fathom why we would remove it before release so Im pretty positive it will remain in the game. We like the splatters but we understand the desire not to have them in there as well. Like oh so many things we try to accommodate players choice.. so its up to you whether you desire to wade through the blood of your enemies or to bonk things on the head and put them to sleep until they wake up and recover from their toothaches that make them so angry ;)

Omg Jamus...that is like, the cutest, funniest. most adorable thing i've read all day <3
@TurningWorm Relax, hun. They're just having a bit of fun. Personally, I think blood and gore in Torchlight is kinda cartoony. It's not like blood and guts are flying around but if you don't want your kids seeing that, nobody has a right to tell you there's something wrong with that.

I did grow up watching movies like Night of the living dead and Day of the Dead, I guess I'm lucky that I learned the difference between fantasy and reality early on. That, and I was raised by a nurse and spent plenty of time watching her work in the ER. Funny, I can watch blood and gore all day in a movie or a game but don't get me near the stuff irl lol. Ew lol.

I am looking forward to this game. However, I am one those people who hates blood and gore.

Will it be possible to turn off the blood and gore?

Thank you.

Gotta love the mod tools. Just load up the .dds textures of all the blood in the game in Photoshop and erase it. :P This is one work around, if there is no built in feature. Then again, knowing me I'll probably be adding double the blood. haha

Will skeletons blow up in a pool of blood in TL2 like they did in TL 1 when Critical Killed?

I think a mod like that exists for TL1, actually. I forget exactly what it was called though.

Runic will likely have to have the feature to turn off blood and gore or at least tune it down. Some countries do have strict ratings when it comes to violence and blood.

Hm, while I enjoy gore in a lot of games, I understand that perhaps some people don't like seeing guts and pools of blood so an option to tune gore down or hide it seems reasonable and it would only add to the success of the game. I feel however the need to stress (again and again) that I like the present (gory) state.

lol it's not gory. Wow. If you think Torchlight is gory, you must not watch many horror films.

I do not think that Torchlight is too gory and what I have seen in the limited videos that Torchlight 2 is not that gory.

I do think that Runic will have to have the feature to turn off blood and gore if they plan to sell the game in a few countries. I believe Germany is one of the countries that have strict rules in regards to violence in games.

Besides it is nothing wrong in having the feature to turn it off if you do not want it.

Serious Sam 2 have cool "turn off gore" modes, for example one of them makes mobs explode in candies and sparkles instead of blood, and other ones explode in vegetables. I usually go with most bloody look possible but mobs exploding in candies are just hilarious :D

I'd love a switch for more blood and gore. :?

Always thought it funny that skellies actually spattered blood on a crit.

(Most of the time, it's a marrow miss)

Gotta think of a theme song for it now like the Ren and Stimpy 'Log' tune:

It's Log, it's Log
It's big, it's heavy, it's wood
It's Log, It's Log
It's better than bad, it's good!

Some people want gore, gore, and more gore. Some people don't. I don't think it's necessary to attack people who feel differently.

Thank you, Jamus. This is important to me, too, as my grandson is now old enough to play, and gore will be turned off. I had to edit TL 1 for some textures that the blood-button did not address, will TL 2 be all-inclusive?

I have no problem with people who want to turn off the gore. In fact, it can be easier to see loot drops if the gore is off. However, I do kind of think it's silly to lecture people about the evils of wanting gore in their games when you're playing a game that is about killing things. This is a slash-and-slay game, like all dungeon crawlers. I don't care what death is like IRL. The death part is the bad part, not the gore. If I let my kids (of which I have 2) play a game about killing (and I do), the gore isn't my main concern. I've already crossed the line that tells them it's okay to have fun killing things in a video game.

It might work on opposite way you expect, if anyone would try to block gore in games when I was a kid I'd go out of my way to get gore on :D

Two sides of a coin. All a matter of perspective, I guess, and how you want your kids to perceive the world. Personally, my adoptive parents did a pretty good job of not sugarcoating reality without totally demoralizing me or killing my ability to use my imagination. There's really not much of a difference between killing things in an action/rpg like Torchlight II and, say, killing orcs and ghosts and such in Gauntlet. It's not real blood, those aren't real people. What you're really doing is aiding and abetting math. As long as your kids understand that-that youre really just changing 0's to 1's or vice versa, that the blood on screen is fake. Latex and tubes. etc, then you shouldn't have to worry too much.

That being said, it IS the parents call, and they should be respected for caring enough about their kids to take such things into consideration. I think a lot of parents get stereotyped as being anti-game because they take an interest in what their kids are doing and (rightly) worry about the impact of violent games on their kids. Guess what? That's their job. The fact that some try to legislate based on fears they might have (despite whatever evidence to the contrary that might exist) is besides the point. People have a right to look out for their kids.

They could always just do what Midway did when the released the Mortal Kombat arcade machine...

They put on a switch that the arcade operators could set that switched the game between "more gore" and "less gore" modes. However, the switch did absolutely nothing. It was just there so that when people complained to arcade owners they could visibly switch it to "less gore" for them to keep them happy.
