Well for starters, the first "netbook mode" was a real netbook mode. What else would it be?

I think you're misunderstanding something. Enabling netbook mode doesn't miraculously mean you can run the game on any netbook, it does however disable a few things and gives a performance boost to make it a bit more netbook friendly. If you still can't run the game then that means you need a better netbook not that the netbook mode "isn't a real netbook mode"...

We are probably not going to have an explicit Netbook mode. The target has always been to keep the min spec as low as possible - but it has been a couple of years and the minspec has slid up a bit, especially due to the increased complexity of the game. Simply put, if your Netbook barely ran TL 1 it will not run TL 2 better. Its just a bigger and more visually complex game.

Nah, that's just what the tablet marketers want you to think. They're both niche products (which is why all this "tablets are going to replace PCs" talk is so ridiculous) with their own strengths and weaknesses, and netbooks are definitely still available and, IMO, still the superior product.

Do you know if Intel GMA 950 (most of the Macbook series have it) will be supported?

Intel is trying to replace the netbook category with Ultrabooks instead. While Ultrabooks rely on integrated graphics cards I know that they will be capable of running Torchlight 2. SandyBridge Ultrabooks with intel HD 3000 card should be able to run them, but the new Ivy Bridge Ultrabooks set to come out soon will run Torchlight 2 fairly well with the much improved Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics card.

So even on an 11 inch Macbook air, Torchlight 2 should run fairly well.

But the intel GMA 950 of some Macbooks are, in theory, less advanced than the HD series. In my case, I usually have the netbook mode ON, to gain some fps, although it is true that i could play without it, with settings in low, without a lot of problems.

If there is a demo of TL2, you can try that to test it out.

Tough to say. The Intel GMA cards are pretty underpowered (Apple stopped including all GMA devices with the line in 2008). Strictly speaking of the MacBook, in the original game, we had some issues with the fact that Apple didn't have modern OpenGL drivers for 10.4 and 10.5 users who had GMA cards. Even though they provided an update in 10.6, it was problematic for us.

Oh, bad news for me then. I really expected to be able to play T2, and the possibilities of me changing the computer at this moment are low :(

I wouldn't touch anything refurbished with a ten meter cattle prod.

I'll disagree somewhat Zidders. Refurbished is totally alright to go with, as long as you get it from a reputable place that has a decent return policy such as Newegg. That said a $350-$400 netbook should be good enough and anything over that should have no problems, at least based on TL1's performance.

Thats pretty nice but hardly a netbook. :P

Before someone buys it though the screen is pretty crappy, I've had a 1366x768 / 15.6" laptop they definitely are annoying to use due to being so wide and so short. I ended up replacing the screen with a matte 15.4 inch 1920x1680 screen. :D
Its probably why they are going so cheap, it suckkked.

I am a person who thinks that, in some things, it is better to invest some money when durability is a requirement, and for me, in computers, durability is a must have, as they are expensive. I don't regret to have bought a Macbook on 2007, as today it works perfectly, almost 5 years after I bought it, being more durable than other cheaper (and not so cheaper) laptops than other friends bought at the same time.

Of course, it is not made for playing. The thing is that where I lived before, I had an gamer computer also, but not I moved abroad and I only have my laptop. Torchlight was a great thing, as it was one of the few titles on my Steam account I could play, and it moves very nicely. I hoped that I could play T2, but until it is released, I will not know, although after the message from BrianW, I am kind of sad.

I remember working in retail, there'd be a refurbed product at about 40% off; first immediate question from the customer's mouth was always, "Alright, what's wrong with it?" which makes no sense to me. It's refurbished meaning, by theory and qc standards, NOTHING'S wrong with it. Something __WAS__ wrong with it, though.
Making a to-do list is on my to-do list.

Refurbished is a hit or miss thing. For the most part you you do not get a full warranty on it and quite often you do not get that much of a deal on it (computers) to warrant the risk. Some might just be buyers remorse or more likely seeing a better computer at a better price and returned it. Other times the computer had some issues and hopefully the tech did find them all and replaced them with new part. Quite often they do not replace with new parts and just use other parts from other returned computers.

I used to do phone tech support for a pc manufacturer and have seen quite a few things that should not be done when it is refurbished.

Well tbh even buying new laptop is kinda hit or miss thingy ( http://blog.laptopmag.com/laptop-fail-h ... nyone-else ), you can buy one and not have single problem for few years, or send it to manufacturer to repair defects every few months.
