Seems legit...

Created almost 25 years ago, Shadowrun remains one of the most original and cherished role-playing settings. The game world’s origin story mashes-up the dystopian Cyberpunk future of a Blade Runner with the high fantasy creatures and races of a Lords of the Rings in an organic way that produces iconic characters, environments, and situations

i can see a lot of backlash by the supporters if the game sucks too.

That's the big risk you're taking by supporting one of these projects. I refer you to this very insightful article that deals with just that question http://penny-arcade.com/report/editoria ... aigns-are-.
The advantage of kickstarting something like Shadowrun is, as I said earlier, the fact that it's Jordan Weisman doing the project. In the case of the Grim Dawn kickstarter they already have a good chunk of the base system in place and they mostly need funding for art and animation assets. So for Grim Dawn you can take a preview look at the mechanics already in place and decide whether or not you like what they're doing. Shadworun on the other hand is still very much in the early conceptual phases so that one might be more of a roller coaster for some fans depending on how they implement things. However if you're a fan of Jordan Weisman and his style then it's likely you'll enjoy it to some degree because that particular style will naturally reflect in the final product.
