You will get a key for Torchlight II regardless of where you purchase. Pre-orders will get their keys when the game comes out. When you want to play internet multiplayer, you will be required to login with your Runic Account. If your account is not set up, you will be presented with the option of setting one up and linking your key to it. Once your key and your account are linked, you can login and play internet multiplayer.
- Steam keys are only used to set up your Runic Account for internet multiplayer.
- Runic and Perfect World keys are used to activate your game installation and to set up your Runic Account for internet multiplayer.
- Please note that you cannot use a non-Steam Torchlight II key to activate Torchlight II on Steam.
A Runic Account is NOT REQUIRED for single player or LAN, only for internet multiplayer.
Internet multiplayer has some additional features that are tied to your account - such as friends lists and the ability to block players.

when you mean LAN play, does that also include direct connection play? like, i was only planning on playing with 1 friend and we usually host a local game (over the internet) and dont use any servers. or, will we be required to log into online and make a game there?
justinian wrote:cakes wrote:We don't have an option to directly enter an IP address (which would also mean the person hosting would need to forward ports on their router)

Zidders wrote:Hmmm..kinda disappointed you folks don't have that option, Justinian, as I play over Hamachi quite a bit :/
Really wish you folks would reconsider that, I think it's going to turn a lot of people off who have been looking forward to LAN over VPN.
