Look..I love Runic, I'm a huge fan, most folks know this. Even so, come on. Be realistic here. If someone made a mod of Diablo III in Torchlight II, it would take about as long to make as Diablo III did for it to be any good. Nobodys going to make that mod, and if they DO make a D3 mod, it will probably be fun and amusing but it's not going to be a threat to Blizzard.

Torchlight II wouldn't have much affect on Diablo III. There are way more Diablo fans than there are Torchlight fans. Torchlight is still the new kid on the block. Diablo III has years and years of gameplay and nostalgia behind it, and tens of millions of people waiting to get it.

The reality is, both games are going to comfortably coexist, lots of people are going to play both and they're both going to be fun. You don't 'have' to be a fan of one or the other. You don't 'have' to pick a side. You can like both-like I do-and it's ok. If you don't like Blizzard, that's fine too, but that doesn't mean you have to partake in all the hyperbole.

For those who don't know how Steam's Top Seller List works, it's based on revenue(yes revenue, not units) from the previous day.

Risen took the #1 spot for a while, Risen 2 costs $50 meaning they have to sell ~2x less than TL2 to get that #1 spot. Torchlight 2 is back at #1 again meaning TL2 outsold Risen by about 100% for Apr. 27, 2012.

My point, TL2 is doing well with it's pre-orders, just based on the steam ones, it's matching Risen in terms of revenue and might be out selling Risen as well. We don't know how many people pre-ordered the PWE version. TL2 isn't gonna fall into an abyss once D3 releases.

Oh, all these worrying people should just stop being concerned over how Torchlight 2 will do with such a tight release date and Diablo 3 taking Runic's revenues. There is no cause for concern, the two games are not even in the same pricing league (some look at Torchlight 2 as a messiah of ARPG genre, and an affordable one at that; others consider it "poor-man's Diablo 3", so why not give it a spin with such a low price). And the fact that it climbed to top seller on Steam shows how the amount of interest for this game (it is currently on third place due to Modern Warfare 3 getting a huge discount and Risen 2 still getting purchased, but we should all just reflect on the fact that revenue is what sets them on top, and also that T2 is still in it's pre-order state). Once the game launches, the sales will break trough the roof, taking into consideration that only TRUE, devoted fans of Torchlight pre-ordered the game when it came out a couple of days ago.

Yes, but I wonder if that will also be Diablo's greatest downfall. What were the stats in the other thread? Torchlight has a team of 35 and it's only been a couple of years since the first game. The quality we're seeing from them is amazing. I know about 30 people IRL whose reaction to the Diablo beta was, "Really? Blizzard spent 10 years on THIS?" and only 1-2 who are still going to be buying it. The rest have preordered 4-packs of Torchlight on Steam.

I do not think it is the best to release right at launch of D3. it is fine after a few weeks after the launch as long as the game is in a finished state.

I've actually been talking to a few mathematicians/ friends of mine about the mechanics of D3, based on what we saw in the beta and what their official website offers.

Take me at my word when I say I've figured out a few ways to break D3's "difficulty" and build OP redonkulous characters. I'm starting to feel that Inferno isn't going to be as difficult as it's touted to be.

I'll be working with some people to break the game's economy.

It's not really a competition, both games are going to do great, and TL2's gameplay will be much better. This is how most non-biases people are seeing it. Of course until both games are out we can't tell, I'm sure a lot's changed since the D3 beta.

D3 RMAH is going to do very well, period. I don't care what anyone says, even if only 3% of peoplw use it, it will still bring in revenue. Love or hate it, it's a money maker.

TL2's pricetag and awesomeness bring good tidings and once the game reviewers start buzzing about how it's better than D3.... Well. The forums are going to get populated.

Tl2 will be the better game, but I have no illusions that D3 will do much much better on release than it.

Is it ok to think both games are going to be great, and that whether or not one is better than the other is entirely subjective? Can we maybe quit it with the RAWR Torchlight II is gonna kick Diablo III's ass! Because it's just as annoying as when people come in here blathering on about how Diablo III is going to kick Torchlight II's ass.

Look, I love Runic, I've ranted their praises before, gotten all sappy even, that doesn't mean I don't think Blizzard has done a great job and hell, the people behind Diablo III seem like nice enough people, from all the panels i've watched. They've got an amazingly creative team over there. Everyone has a right to think whatever they want about the game but come on, this whole competition crap is bullshit. You can like both. You can be a fan of Runic AND enjoy playing Diablo III. HOW many times have the folks from Runic stated they'll be playing Diablo III, too?

Hahaha, the sarcasm came through without the /sarcasm. And honestly you have a very good point. All this TL2 > D3 and D3 < TL2 or vice versa is pretty silly with most of us only having second hand accounts of gameplay concerning TL2. I have a feeling that it will be a great game, however, I cannot give a definitive statement that has any validity to it until I have actually played the game. People should keep that in mind.
