July release?

Postby rrazputin » Sat Apr 28, 2012 12:42 pm

So somewhere during the process of ordering torchlight 2 and checking my receipt, I saw that it said it was coming out in July. Can anyone else confirm this? I know I saw it, but I want someone to vouch for me. Ill see if i can find it again...

Found it! If you click "add to cart", then go to your cart, it states it as coming out in July 2012. Could this be the release?

I would guess it is but then again they have made a statement when Steam showed a July release date and they quickly changed it to 'Summer 2012' so maybe this is the same kind of mistake.

I would not count on the release date to be July until we here from Runic.

July is very big maybe for the release date since it is Summer (at least for the northern hemisphere).

Lol I'm pretty sure Australians don't make up a big enough portion of sales to warrant a "Summer" release.

Runic's already said it's an error. Check the tracker in the top left if you want more info.

Paws is correct: we have not yet announced the release date. The reason a month is showing up there is apparently due to some kind of oddity in Steam's store. My understanding is that Valve is aware of the issue and will be correcting it as soon as possible.

I hope it's polished enough and ready to go by mid June. :]

Watching people play Diablo III is going to kill me. Not cause I want to play it (at all. I canceled my pre-order on it), but because it will remind me of Torchlight II. haha

Yes, we understand that Steam was not supposed to be showing that date. It does not necessary follow that the date is not correct. The $64,000 questions is: Is the date correct (and Valve leaked it) or did Valve just make it up (i.e. because their system needed that data field populated)?

There's your answer. I know it's all fun to start conspiracy theories and what not but lets not give further fuel to the "ROAAAAAR HOW DARE YOU DELAY THE GAME IT'S JULY AND A LONG TIME AGO STEAM ONCE SAID JULY FOR A FEW MINUTES!!1". Or have we forgotten the Amazon.de mess that happened a bit back?

But conspiracy theories are so much fun. What if Max is really a shape shifting alien?

I doubt anybody really expects a July release, but talking about it is something to do, and it sure helps with the hype :)

But is Max just an automated construct or simulacrum? Or did Falcor actually eat the brain of the individual we know as Max, and now controls his hollow body telepathically?

Normally when you start taking people's money for something it's kinda customary for them to have some idea when they should expect it.
I look at this whole issue as more obfuscation and poor customer service on behalf of Runics marketing.

I remember a year or so ago I was very unhappy about Blizzards customer treatment and loved Runics ideas on how to do DRM Etc. Now I'm pretty jaded with both. Each game will likely be very good, but I feel both companies are droping the ball in different areas of customer service.

They're not forcing anyone to buy it. Caveat emptor is something you should know before you spend a nickle on anything, especially online. If people are willing to take a risk and buy a product that isn't out yet and that has no specific release date then they take that reponsibility onto themselves. It's kinda unfair to imply that Runic is trying to pull a fast one when all they're doing is giving everyone who bugged them about a pre-order what they want.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. As far as customer service goes...have they been slow to post updates and what not? Sure, they HAVE given us updates, tho. Small team spending time polishing the game. Do you want them to spend all their time on the forum, filling us in on every little detail while a myriad of details end up not being worked on as a result, extending production time even longer? And what about all the help they give people who have technical issues with the first game (despite it being three years on AND the fact that they're almost dont making a sequel that will probably blow it away)? Or the times they've helped modders, or the times they've given us sneak peaks at things, even tho they probably want to keep all this stuff close to the vest?

So yeah. Totally unfair. Lately people seem to be taking their spending a reasonable amount of time making a really great game and giving people who begged them to make the pre-order available as them trying to pull one over on us. Where is this coming from? They've done everything to show people that they're one of the good guys. Am I the only one who sees this and appreciates it? That they're not perfect but they're a damn sight better than most companies?
