Can My Laptop Run Torchlight 1?

Postby Nexus141 » Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:03 pm

Ok, So I am new at Runic Games Forum, I love Torchlight ever since, and now I got a steam gift from my friend and its torchlight, I got a outdated Laptop, but can run some games from 2004 and here's the specs:

OS: Win XP SP3
Proc: Intel Celeron 2.8ghz
GPU: ATI Radeon IGP 345M (AGP) 64mb
RAM: 705mb

So, my question is, Is that enough to run Torchlight with smooth/playable gameplay?

Thank you :)

It should run Torchlight, as long as you change some of the settings in graphics, you should get smooth gameplay. TL1 is able to run on netbooks, so yours should be fine.

Unfortunately, I got a huge FPS spike when I entered the mines, On Torchlight, I have a playable FPS which is 18-20. But when I entered the Mine, It suddenly dropped to 5-12.

Is there a way to fix that? I ticked everything off on the top of settings (Except for Fullscreen mode) shadows off, particles at low and netbook mode checked. I stumbled upon a txt file in the runic games folder on App Data "localsettings" and I saw its a tweaking paradise to make Torchlight run better.

My question now is, How to run Torchlight with playable settings? I can't bare with the jerkiness of my Torchlight in game. And also the tweaks to run Torchlight better?

Please, I need desperate help. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't have an easy solution. There is a mod for putting lower resolution textures in the game. I would download it and try and see if it works for you.

I downloaded the file and placed that on the mods folder located in App data. I tried it and the FPS only increased by one digit.

I dont know what to do, I really want to play it with playable fps or smooth gameplay if possible.

The only other thing I can think of you trying is lowering the resolution to 800x600 and playing in windowed mode. Your ram is just barely minimum and your gpu is ancient. That graphics chip is over eight years old. You're going to have a lot of trouble playing Torchlight. While the game was made with notebooks in mind, it was made with newer (at the time) notebooks in mind. I have a windowsxp-ODS'd Vaio from 2004 with that same exact gpu in it, and I'm unable to run Torchlight unless I have it running in 800x600 windowed resolution with the low res graphics mod, and it still runs like crap.

Lowering the resolution is a good idea, but playing in windowed mode is liable to slow things down more. It has to render the desktop/the Windows Explorer environment in windowed mode and then put the game on top of that, whereas it only has to render the game in fullscreen mode.
