Well-a-day

I'm hoping there's a lot more of this sort of thing included in the final release of 'Torchlight 2': not just rare, but
extremely rare events, items (and scripting!).
On a tangent, but related note, in another thread - and I'm sorry, at the moment I can't recall which thread precisely - I read a reviewer's compliant that there wasn't any evidence of "crafting" in the beta, and that this was an oversight (<=== read that as "terminal failing") of Runic's that should not be excused by budget, staff size or design time-line limitations. Okay, I thought, I guess this guy really, really likes to have some perception of control over how things happen within a game... and power to him. Annd then Goren's outrageous haplessness came to mind...
Yes, I know enchanting has - mercifully! - improved in 'Torchlight 2', and that's all for the good: in the real world, someone as hopelessly inept as Goren would've recieved a broadsword to the head...errr, through the head... a long, long time ago: "What do you mean you managed to wipe all the enchantments from my Epic Brighteyes Sonic?"
But this got me thinking: Why not allow players to design their own equipment rather than always rely on the vageries of random enchantments and item generations? Why not have - in the fourth or final act - NPC weaponsmiths and armorsmiths appear that will allow players to generate items that are to their liking (all at a hefty cost of course, depending on the qualities that are being selected)? Further, scrolls and gems - perhaps conferring bonuses or price reductions - could be collected along the way, and gleefully hoarded for this happy event.
Yes, yes, I know, I know... we're taking a page from the 'Diablo 3' design, and I'll not deny it. But why not make some use of a good thing?

P.S.: For all of those wondering where I am: It's called summertime

But I do continue to pop into the forums now and then just to read the latest and greatest, and from what I've seen, 'Torchlight 2' is looking marvelous! - P.
