I'm on a crappy netbook right now, but when my new pc shows up tomorrow or the day after, I might be able to write a quick tutorial. At least as far as how to get Diablo 3 level pieces into TorchED.

Check it out - Diablo III tilsets working in Torchlight. :] The only issue is that for some reason the decorative elements and walls aren't being textured. :/ Somehow the floors are textured, but the other things are not. Any ideas on why this may be and how I can fix it?

-Checked the material files, made sure everything's right?
-Sure you didn't switch around the collision file and art file, or something like that?

It's weird. I somehow got it to show up with a texture on the walls, but it's using the floor's texture. When I look in the material file, it says it's using the wall texture though. :/ Can't figure out for the life of me why it's not using the right texture.

Could there be some kind of texture override going on within TorchED?

I'm not really sure how it would do that or where to check, but it's definitely possible.

I think the Unit editor is what you'd want to check. I remember seeing a section in there that involved texture overrides or something like that.
Even if that turns out not to be the problem, you could theoretically try to use the texture override to see if that will force the texture to show up. Could be worth a shot.

Hey Jackal quick question for ya, are you planning on trying to use the TL engine to do a total port over of D3? If so, wow! I think that would make a lot of people happy.

Did you ever get the wall textures working?

@Arkham - Sounds like a good idea to check the unit editor out to see what connections are there. I'm fixing to head on family vacation in a minute, but when I get home next Friday I'll try it out. :] Thanks for the suggestion.

@Vasshpit - While it's possible, it would be 100% illegal for me to release a mod like that. As much as I'd love to, I'm probably going to keep my mod contributions to things that wouldn't violate copyrights. However, I'm going to teach as many people as I can how to do it. ;]

@Brixtan - Not yet, man. My little bro who I hadn't seen in two years just got home yesterday so I've been spending all my time either hanging out with him or playing the TL2 beta. :] I'll check it out next Friday though.

OMG this is awesome.

Unless this is just a joke, Wrong. There is no copyright issue here as the mod is not being sold or distributed.

Exactly, I would love to see a version of Diablo 3 with more D2 style of skill sets!

I could be wrong and i hope i am in this case.. isn't that One of 3 terms of service you AGREE to, Talk about not touching or modding the files that is blizz related. ... cracking open the mpq for the files, becomes a breach of that agreement. though blizz is fairly lenient on mpq crack because look at ALL the machinima made from them. just needed to say it and its not like your making any money off it. I love how far you have come on it and can't wait to see more.

It's for this reason that I couldn't release any work I may or may not have already done. ;) Instead I do the 'teach a man to fish' method.

Always the best way to do it. If you only write a Tutorial on how to do it, you do not release any copyrighted material. Interesting to see, how much stuff from D3 works with Torchlight....

I haven't delved much into materials in Torchlight, is there any way to take out that shiny plastic-y look?

If you're referring to the dull highlighting on the edge of most models, I think you'll want to turn off Rimlighting in the game preferences.
Specularity should be turned off for everything in Torchlight, so the rim light is the only thing I can think of that might make things look shiny or plastic.
