The version you buy decides which platform you can play it on.

Buy it from Perfectworld you and you can't play it on steam.

Buy it from Steam and be able to play on steam.

xfri, the beta key gives you access to part of the game during the beta period. It doesn't also grant access to the full game when it comes out; the beta key won't upgrade to a full key. If you play the beta, that doesn't force you to later spend any money on the full game, but Runic sure would appreciate it if you did!

You will need to buy the game separately when it comes out. There will be a demo, however, in case you're still not sure whether or not you want to get the game. The game will be sold via Steam, Runics website, as well as through Perfect World entertainment. A boxed version will also be available in certain European territories.
