To much open maps...not enough caves and dungeons and towns. Skills aren't all that exciting to level up (may be fixed later though). That is a major selling point on a game for me. The feel of being able to make anything and make it powerful. Equipment doesn't really stand out , unless it is a unique , and I hate building my character with uniques.

And it won't work on my brothers computer for multiplayer. Will work if he is the only one in the game. We want to play the game together though.

Take a break from gaming for about month. It works wonders.

well, wish I could read the entire game on my tongue, Portuguese, played the 1st tourch and I know that there are many fans of you here in Brazil, would be great to play this masterpiece in my language, translate the 1st here to support our people who requested this, here is the proof that translated the first torchlight: http://www.tribogamer.com/jogos/traducoes/?id=20

I'm playing the beta, this game so far has thoroughly impressed me. Leaps and bounds ahead of the original, especially in online multiplayer. My only request is to please do away with the "Mana" resource and instead give each class a special resource (similar to Diablo 3's Fury for the Barbarian, Arcane Power for the Wizard, etc etc). If not that's ok, I'm sure someone will create a mod for that lol. Good job Runic Games!!

Then you have to wait till the retail comes out because they have a LAN option. You won't have to bother connecting to the internet if you just want to play with your brother. Also for 20 bucks you get pretty much what Diablo 3 has minus the lore. You can't go wrong. If you can spend 60 bucks on Diablo 3 with DRM then Torchlight 2 is a no brainer with offline mode, and LAN available. You can't get any better deal for this type of genre.

Also beta doesn't show you the entire game. There are two other towns, and a lot of side quests to come.

Yay! I have never played the Diablo series nor have i ever been a big fan of hack and slash games. That said, i am loving this game! The combat is just so much damn fun and satisfying. It's very meaty, gory and gratifying even though the art direction may hint at otherwise. That's the other thing i like about this game. The atmosphere and the overall aesthetics are just fantastic. I especially like the soundtrack. Rarely do i see a game with this much charm and atmosphere. I am also surprised how well polished the game is.

I can't wait to see what kind of cool mods the modding community will come up with for this game. Here's hoping that somebody has already started conceptualizing a Warhammer 40K total conversion. You can already dual wield weapons in the base game. Imagine wrecking havoc on endless waves of Orks with a Bolter in one hand and a Chainsword in the other. It would be gloooooorious!

The only class i really liked playing was the engineer... i enjoy defensive characters who can still kill things decently, and you cant really go wrong for 20$.

im a bit disappointed with most of the other classes though. the 2 ranged characters are made to be squishy kiters which is lame. at least in diablo 2 there were ways to build a sorceress with defense, such as having high dex and max block... you never had to be a squishy kiter if you knew how to play.

i expect the berserker to end up being very overpowered when you get access to max skill levels and top of the line gear that enables you to skill spam. i mean maxxing the shadow attack with life drain will be 20% life leech on hit, then max the heals on crits... once you can manage the mana to spam it nothing will be challenging for him.

but i did like the engineer and its only 20$.

i may well wait and see how path of exile plays as open beta is supposed to start in june.

/shrug

also if the devs listen to half the whiner complaints on the beta forum the game is going to get dumbed down to the point you wont want to play it more than once, ever.

The overworld is kind of your standard stuff. It's nice, but nothing special.

What I really liked were the variety in dungeons. With the few dungeons that are available, there is a large amount of variety in monsters, geometry, themes, background interaction, vertical vs. horizontal, and random doo-dads, like lighting torches as you go.

As long as the rest of the game continues to introduce many more new things in every other dungeon, I think it's an easy pick up for $20.

Honestly,i am not sure.

The Good:
Outdoor environments are so well executed that you might not even notice the fact that the game has a single path with few branches available,it's like open world, but it's not,get it? :D
It doesn't feel cheap, the animations are fluid and crisp, when you hit or shoot something,it feels like the whole hell is going to break loose, props to sound designers, because that is what gives these kind of games a ''punch'',weather effects, rain and snow create nice atmosphere fitting to the environment.
It doesn't feel as if runic just copied Torchlight I and remade some textures to make it look slightly different, which i must say most games do these days (Assassin's creed for example)
The ability to rebind keys is a nice touch which torchlight I lacked big time, along with nice and easy-to-use interface.
Cannot say anything else as it's only a beta.

The Bad:
Characters lack that unique feel, only way you can extinguish your self is by finding class-unique gear, all other armors and weapons look exactly the same on every single character.
Lack of animations, all classes have same exact animations, the only thing that makes them different,is skills at their disposal.
Fog,both outdoors and in dungeons,it makes the textures look pale.

Overall it's gorgeous game as far as environments go,but when it comes to characters,at least in beta they all look and feel too alike, they might of as well just made 1 class with 6 skill trees in it,would of ended up being the same.

I give it a 7.5/10 because I really think it needs cg movies. Killing and killing and killing over and over again with no cg showing you more about the story is bad for any adventure. I also had hoped this game was going to be less like WOW with all the darn key binds but it looks like I was wrong. I did not knock points off my rating for that though. The whole 2.5 off is for not telling a good story and giving the player a break from the action.

it's an ARPG,as in action role playing game, for all i care there might as well be no story at all.
As for the keybinds part.....are you straight up dumb?
This is not hack and slash where you just spam a single button and make chain-attacks.
keybinds were around looooooong before WoW,TL1 used them as well, and there is no reason not to have them, considering that this is PC exclusive title.
I imagine at lvl 50+ you'll have more than few spells, which without proper keybinds cannot be managed.
