Charging Back on Diablo III...

Postby SolsticeFox » Fri May 25, 2012 12:22 pm

So, I've pretty much come to a decision. having played only the BETA, Torchlight 2 beats out D3's full version in every way now, and it's not even out yet. I'm on an annual pass for WoW, but I'm going to be calling my credit card company to say I've 'lost' my card and need a new one.

Sure, it'll lose me my Diablo III, but hell, I've already beaten the game and gotten bored, and I'm done with WoW... but... well, I don't really care anymore. I'm sick of always online DRM. Need to take a stand, right?

And Blizz' sickening denial of their account security issues is another nail in the coffin.

Torchlight II and Grim Dawn all the way. Goodbye Blizz... you were a good company once.

So, the only reason you're taking a stand is because you already beat the game and are bored? So, you gave them your money-despite all the evidence of what they were doing waaay ahead of time..and NOW you decide to post (yet another) anti-bliz thread?

What you're doing is not taking a stand. What you're doing is obeying your whims. There's a difference. If you seriously cared about the issue you wouldn't have gotten the game in the first place, so why act like you care about the issue? You obviously don't. You're not outraged, you're just hating on bliz because that's what all the cool kids seem to be doing.

This sorta made my day. I should be taking notes from you from now on.

I dont think everyone has been following diablo 3 religiously; you cant really assume he knew it was online only, or that they removed all the stats and customization, or made the game revolve around the rmah, or whatever it is hes complaining about. :P

I remember when I bought starcraft 2 only to find their attempts at monetizing the custom game system, you were stuck playing the same 5 crappy custom games over and over again without the ability to create a simple game of a map you actually wanted to play. Lets just say people told me the same thing and that I should just eat it, I was not amused. I mustve played both starcraft 1 and warcraft 3 for like 5 years or more, its a shame really.

I did and I also ignore the whole thing other then a few early class videos before the beta, I didn't even know about the beta or when it was till release. But I knew about the always online requirement and that's why I don't own D3 and never plan to.

I'm really curious as to how many people truly do enjoy which game more? Or whether they like both equally? Because going to both forums, it's really easy to get biased opinions.

It's called 'being a responsible consumer'. Seriously, do you just buy stuff without even researching it? Because that's not being very smart. I don't just buy a game unless i'm reasonably familiar with it. I watch lets plays, or read up on developer websites and web forums. I never get a game the day it comes out (Torchlight II being the only pre-order i've ever bought). Really. You wouldn't buy a car without doing your research into how safe it was, what kind of mileage it gets, what kind of warranty it comes with (I would hope you would, at least). Why should buying a game be any different?

I look into developers before I decide whether or not to support them and I make sure to get as much info about a game, who makes it and their publisher as I can. It's really common sense.

@Giga While I honestly probably enjoy Diablo III's story a bit more (this isn't saying Torchlights story is horrid, it's just even Runic admitted that they're not trying to compete with bliz in the story/voice acting/etc dept) I'm starting to really get into torchlights. I just see Torchlight as being something i'd continue to play. I don't see me replaying Diablo. Combat is too damn slow.

I like D3 (I don't deny its flaws, I just have fun playing it which is what matters most to me) but I know, as expected and after being in the stress test, that once TL2 is out I'll be playing a lot lot lot lot more TL2. And TL2 will the only one I play when my internet connection fails.

I hope that Torchlight 2's enemy variety is up to snuff. D3 has multi-range bosses with different attacks and abilities and combat styles, and you fight some of the most interesting packs of enemies that do more than run at you. That giant worm monster thing that hangs onto the side of a wall was captivating.

I hope the enemies in TL2 could give me that sense of awe. So far, unfortunately, it's been a lot of kiting around and attacking when I'm ready (Except for the actual boss of Act 1, which was exciting and chaotic. Didn't like the constant monster spawn, though - it was literally just a wall of padding to separate you from the boss and stretch the fights out longer. I know for a fact that ARPG can create exciting bosses that don't rely on super-duper spawning, and I'm hoping the rest of TL2 could succeed in that respect.)

But regardless, yeah, the fast combat is a huge plus. It's sorta difficult for me to come back to D2 or TL1 after the TL2 beta...
