I played Diablo 2 LOD 1.09d for 8 hours a day (at least) for 6 months.

I ran the boss "Rotgut" in "Dungeon Runners" for 16 hours a day for 2 weeks. (similar to fighting mephistos lair over and over again for over 200 hours in two weeks if you don't know Dungeon runners but do know diablo) . That doesn't include the rest of the time I played Dungeon Runners.

I watched 5 Seasons of bones in less then one week.
=============================================
When I want to do something I tend to only focus on what I want to do. To the exclusion of everything else. The gives me extraordinary focus (if I like what I am doing) but at the cost of not being able to focus on anything else.

Nowadays I can't focus on anything. I played maybe 20 minutes of video games in the past week. All I do is passive , Like listening to books.

The new spy weapons make me angry - I feel the spy has the highest skill cap out of any class; a great spy has a lot that differentiates him from a good spy. The pub stompers of TF2. >.<

That said, they are relatively easy to counter if people just know how to simply spy check.

I've discovered most all of my game time goes to multi-player games now; co-op and whatever is a must on most of what I buy. Single-player games I just play on a one-off, and if they are really good, I pick them up again every now and then. I think even the worst of games can be redeemed by co-op experiences. Tis' why I'm even more excited for TL2. Now if only Bethseda would take a lesson from what most people actually want and do Skyrim/Oblivion co-op, and not MMO. Or make it like Ultima Online. Man, I would play an updated Ultima Online so much.

You mentioned the stigma. A large part of TF2's stigma is the cash shop

... and? I'm sorry, I'm not making the connection here. Lots of things have stigmas. :|

stuff about certain aspects of the game that I pointed out that I do not like

It is less an issue of, "I do not know how to play against these strategies/weapons and this annoys me" and more of, "I liked the way the game used to be better. I felt it was more balanced, and the addition of these weapons greatly upset that balance and replaced it with something 'normal' that I can't possibly see as being better".

I guess I understand he sentiment. Fortunately for you, there are a large number of vanilla servers out there for you to enjoy.

With all due respect, this is a lie. When you see a server tagged as "Vanilla" it refers to the rules the server uses -- 24 players max, respawn timers, etc. It has nothing to do with unlocks/drops.

Now if you were talking about TF2/no unlocks servers, this is still a shaky statement, because from what I've seen and experienced none of these servers last particularly long, are barely ever populated, aren't advertised at all, and the no-unlocks mod that they use is sometimes glitchy to the point of not even working properly. Maybe something has changed within the last month I haven't played the game, but I doubt it.

Even if these servers exist in a more common capacity than I am aware of, the point still stands -- TF2 is different now. The way everybody sees TF2 is different now. And I don't really have a problem with ALL the unlocks, like I said. But if I'm only against certain ones, then tough luck finding a large-enough group of like-minded people who coincidentally want to play EXACTLY the way I do. I'm not going to jump through hoops just to play the game the way I want. Honestly, I don't think it's worth the trouble when I can go play something that's already the way I like instead.

Speaking for myself? It's a cartoon. I like the goofiness and I would have gotten bored of it a long time ago if it weren't for the fact that all these new toys were added. I wish the medic had gotten more than he did but i'm happy with what he got. There's a reason he hasn't gotten more than what he has. His gear is probably the best tuned gear in the game. It's like having a medical bag full of custom made operating tools. No matter what the situation, all I have to do is quick switch my equipment and i'm ready to operate.

Sure, it's like a cartoon. But to me the difference between TF2 then and now is the difference between something like Samurai Jack and something like Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Though i'm giggling at someone who plays one cartoony game because it gives you more ways to customize your character and individualize it complaining that another, just as cartoony game let's you.

Well, like I said, Torchlight 2 has a more cohesive definition than TF2 in its current state does. If Runic starts putting in pew-pew techno lazors and obviously out-of-place stuff in the game then I'm honestly going to lose interest in it.

and that image is awesome!

It really isn't. :/

I dunno gold. I mean, I guess I can totally see where you're coming from. I'm sorry you feel that way. Maybe it's because I don't play as much and don't play that long when I do play nowadays that I just really haven't noticed it as much as when I used to play it a ton. Honestly, the odds are, you're probably right and i'm just overcompensating because i'd rather try too hard to continue liking it, rather than admit that it's not the game I used to love.

Now that I think about it..you're probably right. :/

I dunno. Kinda torn here. Half of me wishes it were still the way it used to be, because before all the updates, I was part of an awesome server community. When the demoman/soldier update happened, that community fell apart and the game started to not be as fun due to all the drama and asshats.

I still like the cool new weapons, I still like the hats, I guess I just stopped liking a lot of the people. I don't really have issues with the game, not really...it's the fact that that community, the one I spent almost three years in, became overcrowded with trolls and haters.

So..if it seems i'm a little too much in this community, sometimes, it''s because i'm worried that will happen to this community, too.

idk why my steam says i only have 9 hours of tf2 played... steams showing that i haven't played certain games at all?
but anyways i used to play the pyro and scout back when the game had no hats.

i can see why people would put that much time into a game, especially tf2. chilling in the corner like a villain with a flamethrower and jumping out at them with a sea of flames was hilarious. gotta love the 90 degree twitches to the ground or sky from them jumping irl haha.

I have no such memory... if what you say is true, then I must be suffering amnesia. In which case I should probably go on a grand adventure or something. Don't protagonists get afflicted with amnesia as a plot device? :?

@OP: I stop playing whatever I don't feel like playing, so I don't understand why people grumble about a game and still put 200hrs into it. But the ones I love, I replay them and set my own rules (yeah, call me a weirdo, I don't care) for them. See the mini text wall below for an example if you want to.

In one Chinese RPG from 2002, I have a save file from back in 2003. I have 100 hours in it, and I'm still not done with it. I just booted it up for another go the other day. I'm farming stat increase items legitimately to max out all my stats on all my characters. You can either steal those from monsters, or craft them by catching and combining stuff. Either way takes time. But the challenge here is, as you level up (and you will, because there's no exp freeze), your damage will become uncontrollably high. You can't catch/steal from the monsters if they're dead, and the success rate of stealing/catching the monsters is stupidly low (as in almost impossible) if their hp is high. Besides that, they run like the wind if your level is too high for them. So... it's a huge time-waster, but I like the challenge. I will not stop until I'm satisfied. Or dead. That being said, I cannot sit for long periods for the same game daily for months, or even weeks. I get bored. And my work is demanding in terms of time (happens earlier than boredom setting in most of the time). So accumulated hours, yes. One shot, no.

Yeah, but that's only because they're the chosen one or something. I doubt you're that important. >.>

Zidders, regardless I know where you're coming from and the sentiment's appreciated. I still enjoy TF2, and I don't wish to knock against the game too much, I just wish some parts of it hadn't ended up like they did, that's all.
