You mentioned the stigma. A large part of TF2's stigma is the cash shop
... and? I'm sorry, I'm not making the connection here. Lots of things have stigmas.

stuff about certain aspects of the game that I pointed out that I do not like
It is less an issue of, "I do not know how to play against these strategies/weapons and this annoys me" and more of, "I liked the way the game used to be better. I felt it was more balanced, and the addition of these weapons greatly upset that balance and replaced it with something 'normal' that I can't possibly see as being better".
I guess I understand he sentiment. Fortunately for you, there are a large number of vanilla servers out there for you to enjoy.
With all due respect,
this is a lie. When you see a server tagged as "Vanilla" it refers to the rules the server uses -- 24 players max, respawn timers, etc. It has nothing to do with unlocks/drops.
Now if you were talking about TF2/no unlocks servers, this is still a shaky statement, because from what I've seen and experienced none of these servers last particularly long, are barely ever populated, aren't advertised at all, and the no-unlocks mod that they use is sometimes glitchy to the point of not even working properly. Maybe something has changed within the last month I haven't played the game, but I doubt it.
Even if these servers exist in a more common capacity than I am aware of, the point still stands -- TF2 is different now. The way everybody sees TF2 is different now. And I don't really have a problem with ALL the unlocks, like I said. But if I'm only against certain ones, then tough luck finding a large-enough group of like-minded people who coincidentally want to play EXACTLY the way I do. I'm not going to jump through hoops just to play the game the way I want. Honestly, I don't think it's worth the trouble when I can go play something that's already the way I like instead.
Speaking for myself? It's a cartoon. I like the goofiness and I would have gotten bored of it a long time ago if it weren't for the fact that all these new toys were added. I wish the medic had gotten more than he did but i'm happy with what he got. There's a reason he hasn't gotten more than what he has. His gear is probably the best tuned gear in the game. It's like having a medical bag full of custom made operating tools. No matter what the situation, all I have to do is quick switch my equipment and i'm ready to operate.
Sure, it's like a cartoon. But to me the difference between TF2 then and now is the difference between something like Samurai Jack and something like Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Though i'm giggling at someone who plays one cartoony game because it gives you more ways to customize your character and individualize it complaining that another, just as cartoony game let's you.
Well, like I said, Torchlight 2 has a more cohesive definition than TF2 in its current state does. If Runic starts putting in pew-pew techno lazors and obviously out-of-place stuff in the game then I'm honestly going to lose interest in it.
and that image is awesome!
It really isn't. :/
