This is great stuff!

Does this mean that item crafting/transmuting is definitely in?

That's what I was thinking too.

Also the skill tiers reminds me a bit of Mythos' skill passives

This makes me wish TL2 was coming out next summer just so I could see what you guys think up in the meantime. Fascinating stuff.

Depends on what you mean, but I'll give a little update on what's changing!

Basically the way item recipes worked was fairly limited (if you checked out the old Recipe editor, you can see how), so I went and added knobs to let you do cooler stuff. That had the side effect of needing to rewrite the ingredient matching algorithm, because the old version made correct assumptions about how simple the recipe was and just did a nice easy naive "if this ingredient works, this must be the ingredient we were looking for". That assumption is no longer valid due to those new knobs, so I had to rewrite that to find mappings from ingredients to what you put in the combiner and is valid with less assumptions (essentially a depth-first graph search that can have quantities per node). Now I have to go back and check if the assumptions I made are actually true for all recipes. If they are, great! Add a few more cool knobs. If they aren't I'll have to do some interesting tweaks to make the result valid with no assumptions. Actually as I think about it I believe it does work with no assumptions :D

As far as what new item crafting/transmuting recipes will go into TL2, I'd say that the kill monster, get sweet loot is still the core focus, so expect things that are less likely to be the end-all method of getting sweet loot goodness and more about supplementing the experience.

Man that sounds good. But there is nothing said about the trade sys. That was reeeally bad in the beta. It was far too complicated and took even too much communication in the chat. Its hard for me not to have the ability to link items to the chat. i hope then you have a better solution. And if even not- i can accept it. But i just would like to have a clear answer to that. Things have to be done easily and in a selfunderstanding way. That is why i even liked the idea of having the ability to set a "ping" around your current chars popsition on the map. A fast way to alarm others, if y found an interesting place, boss, next down etc. all runnin to you. You dont have to write "here" in chat. Everybody knows what to do. RUN TO HIM !

You're doin a damn good game for all of us. We trust in you... hrm - omg, i am already playing the game.. its awe! Thx, my mental cinema :D

You could just open the trade window with the person and drop the stuff you want to show them in there. What's wrong with that?

Nevermind, I don't want to derail the topic, sorry folks!

Captain obvious! For itself - nothing. I just think its too complcated. Imagine your having a game with some people. You're finding stuff from that you think someone maybe needs. IS it practical then to run towards everyone, just to show what y have found or write item stats to the chat all the time. A big part game is not only to trade items for another. i think the social component to push each other even not for any reward is a strong, necessary component in the game. One of the central things i figured out in former diablogames. Its fun to give and get unexpected help from others. Just runin around for your own best outcome is just boring. Would you do that all, if it takes very much commitment all the time? There is a lot of potential given away in vain if that does not work properly.

i think it might be ok. Reading 100 post about how cool that post is, is even nuts.

I stumbled upon Torchlight by chance and I liked it. I started reading stuff about the team and I liked it. I got the Torchlight 2 Beta invite and I loved it. I didn't think I could've increased my awe for a game & its team any more than that in such a short time, then I stumbled upon this post. Runic, you guys are just awesome!

About trading: being able to link an item's description & specifications in the chat window would be fabulous. :)
