Quest chains

Postby ADU » Sat Jul 21, 2012 1:24 am

Will TL2 have similar quest chains that TL? Im lvl42 berserk on TL, and just noticed i never did the trill bot 4000 first quest, SO I HAVE MISSED BOUT 1/3 OF ALL QUEST?!? that sucks hard. One character shouldnt never give quests for the entire game! Becouse it gets boring, and if you miss one quest, you will miss every quest from that char as long as you dont notice it. In D2, you could when ever come back from acts and finish quest, and one ppl normally gave few quests, so i hope TL2 will have same kind of quest tree.

Quite a motivation killer :( . Knowing i missed lot of quests that were in the same path i have completed several another quests.

You're missing the RPG part of the game. So what if you miss a questgiver? It's just part of that character's journey. (Although yeah, it's annoying if you don't look hard enough and miss a long quest line that gives good rewards lol)

Sometimes I feel like these games should just be called Action games since that's all the majority of posters seem to want out of them.

I think there should be possibility to complete the quest when u want, after discovered. Over long quests arent fun to return and complete(and i assume robot gives quests trugh the game as others).

I havent played beta, But its best when theres many questgivers that gives 1-10 quests. The story is then allso more interesting when new characters appear.

From my point of view you can skip the bot quests without losing anything but a few Fame bumps. All it does is asking you to kill certain champions as you progress in the game and gives you very little exp, some fame and a crappy item - so you don't have to feel any less motivated. The bot does have unique lines for each quest but even as the RPG part goes, it isn't useful. As Runic said, Torchlight 1 didn't have a real in depth story or setting and it shows as every quest you can come around is either kill the champion or retrieve the item, always finding what you're looking for while you pursue Aldric - it is an almost purely action game in ARPG format.
I can see how it can be upsetting if you want to complete everything, anyway.

As for TL2, from what I saw in the beta Runic didn't use this kind of set up any more. You'll find different quest givers as you progress in the act, if I remember correctly each with one or in rare cases two quests, so if you miss one of them you won't miss subsequent quests. TL2 also ties quests a lot more to the setting and the main quest, actually making the RPG part quite enjoyable.

We don't really do quests like that in TL2. It worked better in TL because there was 1 town hub that you always returned to. In TL2 you are constantly traveling through the world to new areas, so most quest givers give you one quest and that's it. It may be a chain that leads you to new npcs for the same quest, or other npcs with quests unlock after finishing certain quests, but the same npc never gives you endless quests.

A good amount of side quests are started by finding them out in the world. So you could miss quests if you don't fully explore areas, but these are always optional side things. For people who have played the beta, examples of this would be Ghost Boat, or Bring out your Dead in the cemetery, or Icedeep Caverns.

lol Rizz.

Yeah, I really did enjoy the discovery aspect of the quests in the beta rather than the traditional model of questing we're all more familiar with. I'd like to add that the quests also rotate around, they're randomly generated along with the map. So it might drive the OCD people a little buggy, but by the nature of the random generation you won't be able to obtain all the quests on only one play through.

I'm kind of hoping for a single Side Quest that covers all 4 acts.

There is something that starts early in the game and spans the entire length with a reward if you complete it. But it's a secret. :)

BTW.

How about a Shaman opening portal to another "magic dimension"(Im thinking fractal dimension, with awesome fractal background and lot of spiral steps.allso maze/labyrinth and fractal type structures). Alltough the shaman should give an mushroom that transfers to another dimension for limited time( is it too obvious? :D ) There character could learn spells and MF could be higher in that dimension. Elite enemys would be half human half animal hybrids .

The quest would be to kill a shadow of yourself or to find an instrument for shaman so he can heal you. Prize would be +5stat points and +1 skill or possibility to assign all your points again.(since you have been "reborn" :P )

Maybe this can sound stupid and quite a risk to involve "drug culture" in a game. But it would be and look awesome .

Sry if i sound irrelevant :S
