I don't think a lot of companies realize just how much PR they get from treating Linux the same way they treat Windows or Mac OS. Every time there is a commercial, high-quality game released for Linux, hundreds of bloggers write about it, and Linux forums all over discuss it. As you could see during the World of Goo sale, this will inevitably lead to much higher sales than you'd expect from a relatively small group. If there are ten times more Mac users than Linux users, and Linux users still bought almost the same amount of copies as the Mac users - what does that tell you about Linux users and their willingness to pay for good software?

I'm all for a native port. It's a good thing that Wine exists, but companies should never rely on it, because it does not replace a native port.

Well, for those who don't want to feel like they're theifs why not purchase the game and then download it illegaly.

I agree with you. When a good game is porting on Linux, all the community speak of it. The "Linux isn't for gaming" things is just a myth, there's no proof, give us games and we buy them. I think World of Goo is the good example for the gaming companies, 17% of there birthday sales are for Linux while Linux only has 1% of OS market share.

We are few but we like the companies that think of us.

I wanted to buy windows version until I saw this post, now I'll just start nagging for a Linux version.
Then I'll have two linux games that is worth the money...

"World of Goo!" and "Torchlight"

PS. Don't want no wine or cedega crap only Native games will do!!

I just played the demo, worked fine with wine. Easy to install (I followed this small guide) and lots of fun. The cracked version should also work flawless with wine, according to the Internet (not tested through). I would definitely buy a Linux version, cause I really enjoyed the demo. I won't buy the non-native version though. Wine is a work around, not a solution. Since there are great Linux games out there already, I rather spend my money on them. Like World of Goo, the Penny Arcade game or Heroes of Newerth.

BTW: This might be slightly off topic but check out Heroes of Newerth: It's a great DotA clone, lot's of new heroes and features with a native Linux client. The company behind it - S2 Games - has released native Linux clients for all their games and offered good Linux support. If you want to support commercial games on Linux, check out Heroes of Newerth and consider preordering if you like it, S2 Games is supporting gaming on Linux for a long time.

I've bought World of Goo because it's working on Linux, I've pre order Heroes of Newert for the same reason and I will buy Torchlight if there is a native Linux client.

I would love to see a linux port as well. I will play this game either way, but ive always enjoyed my development on a linux pc rather than windows. If there is a linux port of torchlight and torchlightED then I believe we will see some truly amazing mods, morso than what we see from windows games.

another good reason for a linux port is that RPGs are almost absent as a genre in the Linux platform.
the only one that comes to my mind (and that i own of course XD) is Sacred Gold.
RPGs lovers on Linux would greatly appreciacte a port. i know i would ;)

I'd definitely pay for a Linux release.

THERE IS A MARKET on Linux users.
We certainly are much fewer than Windows' players, but our community is much more mature than them, we are ready and capable of paying for a game we like.
Additionally, linux users are ready to cooperate : look how many scripts were developed to run UT2004, doom3, quake3.

Hi

I also seen various game reviews on German Gaming and News sites.
And only good ones.

Since your using Ogre3D (probably enhanced by your own) as Grafik engine, I guess a linux port is possible.

to make a long story short, if there will be a linuxport -> Ill buy it.

Hi,
I'm really interested in a Linux client of this game.
The game itself looks really impressive so far and I'm absolutely willing to pay for it!
Though without a Linux client, I'm not able to do so and thus will not buy the title as my main machine is running Ubuntu Linux.

Thank you for your support.

Hello.

Just registered to vote for a Linux version as well.
As other have said, games that are released for Linux get a lot of PR, especially from sites like Phoronix. Phoronix sparked a lot of interest in the game Heroes of Newerth, and would do the same for Torchlight if this game were released for Linux.

Yes guys I buy Linux version to! But I never buy it on Windows platform because we were taught from little
up to get crack :D I am Ukrainian) Please create native linux version, you will do a step ahead in development of 3d and games under linux and will attract new users and developers. Especially as Ogre3d is cross platform engine. what is a problem in?

Hi guys !!!

I really want to play under Linux !! I prefer much more paying Linux games than windows ones, so I definetly wait for a Linux version :)
