[Workaround] Stuck Characters

I personally can't do this because load times are insanely long for me. But JamesL is being a nice person and doing it for people. Just post a link to your characters save data and I'm sure he will get to it when he can.

you can make an account on mediafire or sendspace
then upload your file to that account
then post a link to your file so so someone can download it and fix it

would I find my save file in the Steam folder since i bought it threw Steam? I am having trouble finding the file.

Thinktank, you were in the exact same place as Quaz and with the exact same circumstances. When I opend your char he wasn't stuck, but he was surrounded. Very strange.

I dont know if i can shed any light on that situation, all i can say is that i was in the Secret Mines and I was like clipped up to a platform/cliff that i wasn't supposed to be on.

%appdata%\runic games\torchlight\save
your save file will end in .svt
after you upload the file mediafire will ask you if you want to share it, click on the little share icon and then click on the icon that say "copy link"
then past the link here

and don't you find it extremely annoying when the pet cast the haste spell
it makes the loudest sound, louder than anythng else
on my first build my pet had a had the haste spell and I had to take it away, its just too loud

Well it's not disturbing me too much, except when my char is fishing... It often makes me click on the button too fast...

Ok, I have a slightly different but related issue. I also suffered from this bug of getting stuck, but I attempted to correct it myself before researching the correct fix.

A monster whacked me and I got stuck in a corner behind some rocks. I attempted using a couple town portals, but they were too far away, my character literally wouldn't move a step. So next, I looked up the cheats on gamefaqs.com. I was able to edit the "settings.txt" file, and my first attempt was to use the "skillpoints" cheat to give me 1 skill point in order to learn the "Ember Phase" skill in the hopes that it would let me teleport out of the corner... didn't work. I would warp away then right back where I was (I hadn't used this skill yet, so I didn't know how it would work). My second attempt worked by using the "restartlevel" command. Now that I was free, I exited the game and restored the "settings.txt" file to the way it was.

I'm sure you can all see where this is going... I am now branded a cheater and the shared storage chest is missing. I had everything in there. I'm not a cheater, I like to play games the correct way, I was only trying to free myself from this glitch.

So my question is, how can I fix this? How can I get my shared storage back? A user on the gamefaqs.com forums mentioned in passing that the save file might need hex edited, but didn't go into detail. Any ideas?

Thanks JamesL for your help! I was stuck on an upper ledge (part of the scenery?) when I sent it but now all is well in hack and slash land again.

and for those who do have use of the console, the command to use is
ascend town
it doesn't actually take you to town, but takes you to the stairs of the floor your on

Tried for a few hours attempting to get the console to pop up with no avail. My dilemma is that I have a portal open to the Infitnite Dungeon around floor 25 or so already. I went back to do a quest for the guy who sends you through the portal and of course I get stuck after going to do an old quest. If you could get the console command to work it would be wonderful, but if a scroll is the last resort, go for it. I tried the scroll anyway and couldn't even get it to open a portal after being frustrated, but at this point I just want to play!

hi
i have winxp sp3, bought the game from encore as a download. i was playing nicely till i got stuck at the entrance of floor 26, stuck at the stairs.
here is my character and a screenshot:

console, ascend/descend (never descended below 26), portalling to town & back all work; but still im unable to escape from the stairs.

note: manually fixing characters instead of providing a patch seems kinda weird...
...unless runic wants to see what ppl r doing with the game, how they are developing their characters etc. anyway we seem to be in the middle of a high quality beta test (it takes diablo to make torchlight anyway), good enough and u have my char

note2: also notice the distortion of graphics where im stuck, noticable in the screenshot..

and they've already fixed it
they're going to release a patch, but not just for this one thing
they want the patch to include fixes for other problems poeple are having too
so they're testing the patch and plan on releasing it this week
until then, they're manually fixing each char
