Any official feedback yet? Would be nice to hear what the developers are thinking about this and tell us if its even possible or not (e.g. if they use special libs that aren't available). Feedback would be nice, even if its not that positiv.

Indeed, my OS(Ubuntu) may be free but I spend plenty of money buying good software to run on it. Please release a Linux client, wine isn't the answer.

Like one of my preposter earlier stated, I think even if there are less buyers for the linux port the publicity or the propaganda the linux guys are doing to friends and family will lead into more people buying the game in total. Even if the friends are windows or mac users. All my diablo nerds around me never heard from torchlight before.

I would definitly buy it (if there would be a native linux build) and I know at least one other linux gamer who would by it too.
For know I bought nearly all good linux games out there. So if I would have a nice diablo like game on linux (except Sacred) I would really appriciate it.

I would also buy a linux version instantly ( but I will not buy a windows version! ).
Linux users might not be a big number of customers, but they know what they do!
So especially when a game is new ( and has bugs as usual ) linux users are a big benefit for the developers. Linux users typically give very good and detailed bugreports which help a lot!! And if it comes to things like multiplayer servers or mods they often are the soul of a games community and this little number of customers are maybe those who make a game a big success!

update: ( my preferred linux distribution is ubuntu )

Count me as in favor of a native Linux client. Everyone seems to post about WorldOfGoo's sales figures and blog posts where they praise the Linux community, but no one ever posts one of my favorite articles on why indie developers should support alternate operating systems.

The list of commercial Linux titles seems to be growing almost monthly and I would love to add this title to my list of installed games.

And another article pointing out that Linux users DO buy games, and actually make the best customers.

I would buy a linux version too... how about preordering so you could see how many will buy this game?

Yeah, the pre-ordering way is good too if you need more convincing.

Sure, why not. I preordered Jack Keane, the game needed a number of preorders before being ported. The number was reached and the port actually shipped which was very nice :D

I'm highly interested in a LInux version of Torchlight.
I'd really appreciate if it'd happen.

edit: looking into preordering. upgraded from xp to karmic koala last night so rebuilding my gaming collection is priority one !

I'm also interested in a Linux version. Actually, as it happens, I came across this game while visiting the OGRE website. I have some knowledge of developing games on Linux myself (although gained privately, not through industry), and I have to say that I would be happy to port it to Linux myself, for the price of a couple of free copies.

Looks like there IS a huge demand for a Linux version; just take a look at the huge amount of people who signed up to the forums, and only made one post just to say that they want a Linux version too! Well I'd have to agree. Right now I use windows on my desktop for gaming and Linux on my laptop, but I'd prefer to have both computers running Linux. I used to use Linux for gaming, but after a while I got sick of wondering "is this game going to work or not" and putting dozens of hours into fiddling with wine and cedega. If Runic were to put out a Linux version of their game, it would enable people like me to use the OS of their choice to play the games that they love.

However, given the choice, I think most people would rather have their own OS and no game rather than switch to windows like I have just to play a couple games. Releasing a Linux version is a smart thing to do that would capture this new market, as well as generate the undying love and affection of fans such as myself. We Linux users are notoriously loyal to companies that support our OS of choice, and having such an extremely loyal fanbase for a company is something that is extremely invaluable.

Do the smart thing Runic, and release a Linux version, for the good of your users and potential users, as well as for the good of the community and Runic Games itself.

Signed,
Stephen Carter
Torchlight player, community member, and Linux user.

I have just signed up to this forum just to say.

Please port over a native Linux version! I have bought many great Linux games in the past inc the very cool up and coming "Heroes of Newerth" http://www.heroesofnewerth.com which has a massive Linux user group simply because WOW has no native Linux client yet!, as well as Penumbra Collection http://www.penumbragame.com/ageGate.php and of course the equally cool Uplink! http://www.introversion.co.uk/uplink/ .

Torchlight looks like an awesome game I would love to add it to my collection.

Go on, jump on the new bandwagon! Become the next next company to see the great potential in Linux gamers!

Thanks for the chance to have my say ;) look forward to a release soon!
