Seems like your savefile layout is a bit different than mine, my characters name always start around line 60. I've tested on all three classes and it's always been on 40. If you'd upload your .svt file somewhere and post a link to it, I can take a look.

The chest is disappearing after you close the console window because you still have the cheater flag enabled. Did you make sure that you completely exited the game before you used HexEdit? When you saved it from HexEdit, you overwrote the one in your %appdata%\runic games\torchlight\save directory and not a backup that you made(if any), right? You didn't type any other console commands before you tried to spawn the chest that would have turned it back on, did you?

Ooh, sorry for the late reply, meant to edit my last post after I posted. Don't really need to close the game, just have to go back to starting screen.

Found the d6 flag, it was at 0x40.

Was poking around in one of my new savegame files and it looks like 0x40 starts off as 00 00 e4 instead of just e4.

Make sure you change 'the cheater' to 00s, don't delete it. Deleting it makes the game stop recognizing the save file.

All that does is spawn a blue dragon that keeps attacking everyone that walks near it :?

edit: nevermind, found it. It was 3179 in my list for some reason.

Weird that those lists aren't the same for everyone... But yeah, if you can't find it just type ANY by itself to get a list (might need to turn console logging on and read it from your ogre.log file if you can't find it in the console's limited scrollback buffer.

Of course, doing anything like that that enables the cheat flag will make the shared stash poof when you close the console, so you'd have to start over from step 1.

Okay wait, what actually happened? What do I have to do to be flagged as a cheater? I would like to avoid it.

Just don't use any console commands then, and you'll be fine. There's at least one, maybe more, that you can use without being labeled a cheat, but there's really no reason to use them anyway unless your character gets stuck somehow or something. Best to just avoid the console.

When I did that, it changed the end of my name to a lot of @R@R's. Wonder if I cut off too much :P

The respec mod however works without flagging you? Somebody said something about the respec potions.

The respec mod, which makes respec potions randomly appear in the item shop, does not enable the cheater flag. The reason why I originally posted this fix was because some people were impatient waiting for the respec mod or did not know how it worked and used the ITEM console command to manually spawn a respec potion instead (which does enable the cheater flag)

Just a quick note that I updated the original post with pictures and hopefully clarified on some things.

So I don't really care about the shared stash thing, infact it keeps me from corrupting myself everytime I play : P I just don't like having the "the Cheater" title after my name. Yes I did cheat, quit reminding me!

So I used the hex editor to change the name. Clicking on the right side at "the" then clicking on the left where it is highlighted, all I had to do was put 0 in every slot until "t.h.e. C.h.e.a.t.e.r." was erased. I then put "t.h.e. R.e.b.e.l." in instead .. cause it's cool .. >_>

Anyway! Thanks for figuring out how to do this : )

Hello,

yes, you can do that pretty easy the same way as described in Zaggeh's first post, with the difference that you will have to edit the name instead of the cheater flag bytes (for sure you have to find your name and your pets name first, it's divided by Hex 00 between each letter).

Just overwrite the letters of your character's name with something different on the right ASCII mode editing panel (or enter 00 on the corresponding letter in the hex window to remove it).

Regards,

Wolf

In patch 1.2, using the command 3178,1 is considered a cheat, which completely ruins this whole set-up :( What a shame..

Nothing at all accidental about spawning a respec potion, or using one for that matter, or getting into a situation wherein your will buckles and causes you to look for one. :x

the OP stated that if you use a hex editor to change the first entry on the fourth line from D6 to 4E it removes the 'cheater' flag.
I just wanted to let the community know that the ninth entry on the second line is the 'Difficulty' (setdifficulty) level 00/01/02/03 depending on what you originally set it to. changing this value in the hex editor will change the difficulty of the given toon without the console and any risk of being flagged as a cheater.

If you're changing the difficulty, why should the cheater flag (and its attendant penalties) matter to you? Taking away the label doesn't change the act.

Edit: (They changed it for SC in 1.12, sigh....)

because then you can't use the shared stash with your other toons. please read the whole thread before asking something dumb.

I know full well that happens ("attendant penalties"). You cheated, so why does a relatively insignificant thing like the shared stash still matter here? Plod on. Wear your title.
