Just so you know, you're breaking mod.dat...

From Ogre.log:
13:38:33: Unable to determin file type( Best Guess ASCII ). You need to save the file as unicode - recommend doing it in word pad.C:/USERS/******/APPDATA/ROAMING/RUNIC GAMES/TORCHLIGHT/MODS/******/mod.dat

Sort of an incoherent error message, but you get the idea. You're using ASCII or UTF-8. UTF-16/UCS-2 is required for all .DAT files.

This is right, we have recognized this short before the release of 1.0b - but moved this to the next version because it is just a cosmetic defect which does not hurt anything. Thanks for reporting, it will be fixed.

It seems that there is an problem with 64 bit OS.

when I try to install a mod I get an error message that tells me that the "torchleech_unrar.exe" cant be run cause of an incompatibility with the 64bit windows (7 btw)

any suggestions on that?

edit:\\ Update all only works when I start torchleech as an admin

and btw. the earlier Version worked just fine!

It seems to be an alignment problem with some XP installations/themes. We will increase the distance from the right side and hope, this will fix your problems.

"Can't be run"-error: When you install a mod, the UnRAR command line tool (temporary) and the mod as RAR-archive will be downloaded and extract to the mod folder. That is our fault, we have to use the 64 bit version in this case. Sorry for that, we will fix it next version or provide a seperate 64 bit version of TorchLeech.

"Update all" should not need admin privilegs - curious. The tool reads/writes data only in the Torchlight folder in your user profile (/runic games/torchlight/). We try to reproduce this behaviour.

Thanks for this great tool, its really ease mod installation. :D

Also a suggestion, to make browsing more easy, for sort minded ppls like me
Locally stored info about the available mods: Its should mark checked (clicked) mods, new mods on the list, and 'tested but later uninstalled' mods.

I have no problem under Windows 7 (RC1, 64 bit, IE8). TorchLeech load an instance of your IE into the tab and nagivate to the mod site. Please try following steps:

1) Please uncheck the checkbox in front of the web address line. This will deactivate the intern web browser in TorchLeech.
2) Click on the critical mod and copy the url of Runic Games Fansite to the clipboard.
3) Try to open this url with your installed Internet Explorer and look, if there are some issues.
4) Let me know which version of IE do you have installed. You should use version 8.

It looks like when the IE instance crashes because of an incorrect webpage TorchLeech crashes too. RGF is going down in quality for several weeks (really slow servers) and does not support the Internet Explorer very well. Many users tell about huge problems with downloads via IE (corrupted files), some other get scripting errors from the page and other issues.

Fast workaround for your installation: Deactivate the intern browser with step 1. You can easily start a website in your favourite installed browser with the button behind the address line (the one with the arrowcross as symbol). Thats the way i work myself, faster mod navigation and browsing fullscreen.

Do you really want to add a single weapon?

November 23, 2009 -- we get some requests for special sets or weapon mods every day. Do you really want to install a mod for a single set/weapon? With an built-in armory of over 1,000 items, you get additional 1-3 items from a mod which must be drop before you can use them. Most times, there are no ways to get this items at a vendor. You can mark you as a cheater and lose your shared stash while putting new items via console in your pockets - uhh. Not? The other way is to be really lucky on drops or manipulate with downloaded shared stashs to profit from these mods.

We support "Tier-3 Ancient Items" (adds 1,000 items for high level players) and some potion/gem mods already. Why? Everything beyond 100+ items is a quantity where you can get sure to find a drop from it. Potions and scrolls are purchasable by vendors. But to add a single weapon mod will mess up the mod list. Maybe there will be a future project which merge some items mods together and provide a nice amount of new items (like "Pet Transmogrification Potions" does for pet skins).

Question for me or Fenk? If you have the intern web browser in mind - TLeech use IE for this feature. Firefox - my favourite Browser too - will be used when you click the button (with arrow cross) as descripted above. This starts the url with your default web browser in your system. But the crash issue has nothing to do with IE at all. The IE works on both of my machines with the RGF website.

sounds like to stop its crashing issue, it should use the default browser setting, and if IE is defaulted then it shows as its programmed. personally i dont use his browser as i prefer them in seperate windows, maybe a function to not show the browser portion would help if we could turn it off.

Whenever I use the "Update All" button, pop-up windows saying "Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 005B6C63 in Modul 'torchleech.exe' . Lesen von Adresse 00000026." appears. If I click the OK button on the window it dissapears but a another copy of it pops up, and will continue popping up seemingly forever. I end up having to Alt+Ctrl+Del to get rid of it.

Because of this, I have to update mods by uninstalling and reinstalling them.

I've noticed that if I install the mod "Wolf Dog (size boosted dog) via torchleech, it will always be highlighted green, even though it's obviously up-to-date.

I'd like to make a request. Could you please bring back the option to update just a single mod? I like to customize some of my mods, and if the customized mod is one that torchleech carries it will mark it as outdated. Obviously I don't want to "update" these mods, so for now I'm forced to uninstall and reinstall any mods that I do want to update.

Between the mod list and browsing area is a splitter - a small line which can grab by a mouse click. Move it down to reduce the browsing area until it fits your needs. I have reduce the browsing area to about 100 pixels at bottom that i can switch between the mod websites and have a really large mod list on my 1680x1050 resolution. If i really want to visit a website, i am clicking at the button and my Firefox pops up.

This is an unhandled error. We will check the update all code for the new version this week. I send you a pm for further detailed questions about your OS and circumstances.

We have corrected the build values for "Wolf Dog" in the online database, it should not displayed green anymore. If you have installed a mod via TorchLeech and don't want to update it in the future, delete or rename the file "mod.dat" in the mod folder. If you start TLeech again, it will show this mod as "unsupported" in red color and does not apply updates. When you modify your mods, you are navigating to the mod folder already.

TorchLeech 1.1 released!

November 24, 2009 -- new functions, improvements and bugfixes:

  • New option to backup your savegames before starting Torchlight via TorchLeech.
  • New context menu: Copy your installed mods as list into your clipboard (text, bbcode)
  • New option to show build date of mod packages in version columns.
  • Tools can be downloaded, but must installed by yourself (read instructions from authors)
  • Speed up initial mod installation, reduce download traffic and hopefully fix 64-bit issues with UnRAR.
  • Start parameter are editable now (allows users with switzer Steam to change the game id)
  • Searchbox and "Visit homepage" button have more distance from the right corner (try to fix display issues under XP)
  • Correct character encoding for file 'mod.dat' in mod folder to UTF16/UCS-2 on check for installed mods.
  • Request dialog does not lock fields/save button anymore.
  • Some minor improvements/fixes (proxy settings)
The new backup option will make a 1:1 copy of your 'save' folder and rename it to 'save - backup yyyy-mm-dd hh-mm-ss'. You can easily switch between the backups just by renaming the folders in the Windows Explorer. On the context menu of the mod list you have the new possibility to copy the installed mod names to clipboard as plain text/bbcode (bbcode will add weblinks to the mods - really sweet for forum posts). With the build date option you can expand the version columns like "1.0" -> "20091120 (1.0)" where the number represend the date format "yyyymmdd". If you activate this option, you can sort the mods for oldest/newest mods and can easily check for new mods which added recently to the database. Another way is to follow us via Twitter. To speed up the installation process and reduce download traffic we use a packed version of database and integrate both 32 and 64 bit versions of UnRAR as a binary resource. This reduce the download traffic from 270 KiB down to 12 KiB on first mod installation after program start. The 'mod.dat' will be automatically rewritten with UTF16/UCS-2 encoding when the file has ANSI encoding and TL search for installed mods. This will fix some cosmetic issues from ogre log while loading the mod data.

TorchLeech wrote:TorchLeech - free mod manager inspired by "WoWMatrix" for World of Warcraft.

The main goal is to provide simple de-/install and update of mods for your Torchlight installation just by one click. The manager automatically detect conflicts between mods, allow to disable/enable a specific mod and edit the 'mods.dat'. It takes care of the bug with ADM-/CMP-files in the game version 1.12. The online database is a download mirror of repacked archives to pull out every mod with informations about author, version, ... The project does not list every stuff which is available at the well known community sites as Torchlight Insider or Runic Games Fansite. All mods must be functional and pass a quality check (by the TorchLeech team).

Native 32-bit Windows binary. Windows Vista/7 are tested, don't know if XP does the job too - just try it. If you have any trouble with TorchLeech or want to comment the tool -> post in this thread here.

More infos on the website (includes some FAQs). Just download, extract and start it.

There exists another tools for mods, check them if you want: TorchKit.

WOW ! try now, works very well !! :D

This program looks cool, but it doesn't actually work for me.

First, most of the mods already installed show up as not supported. I remember somebody saying that this is because they weren't made to be compatible, so what do we mod creators need to do to make compatible mods?

Second, when I click update all, it just gives me a series of error messages in what appears to be German, and I have to close the program. Then it erases one of the mods, which is very far from acceptable.

@Redattack34: Thanks for reporting the error, we have found a bug in some special circumstances and will release a fixed version 1.1a. For your information: TLeech has try to check the installed mods first with an identifier provided from our modules. In a second step it search for the mod folder name and try to find a comparision in the database. But if you have not installed a mod via TorchLeech, its folder name is in line with an mod name in the database, if there is an updated version available and if you click on "update all" it get into trouble.

It do the first step of the update process and delete the old outdated mod folder and want to install the new version. Because of this error, it stops with installing and the mod disappears. We have changed the check for installed mods. TLeech does not try to synchronize with the mod name anymore and will show up such mods in red color as "unsupported".

I am really sorry for your mod which was deleted. Hopefully you can install/download it again. Maybe you are frighten off the tool, but i am sure that we have fixed this bug. Sorry again, a special constellation which we don't have at our test machines or found while over 800 players using it.

I also have an issue with this mod manager. After downloading the program, I found that all my existed mods were label as "not supported", so I decided to fool around with it by reinstalling some mods. I'm not entirely sure what I did, but right after reinstalling one of the mod, all my existing mods got wiped out excluding the one I reinstall via Torchleech. I was using the additional stash mod too, but thankfully the items did not get deleted after reinstalling it manually. I guess this is a pretty neat mod manager for those who wants to start using mods but it still needs a bit of work.
