Spectral Echo and Frost Shield - how do they work?

I don't understand the descriptions to be honest. Frost Shield sounds like it's a passive skill that activates when you get it, and grants you a buff automatically so to say. Is that correct?

What about Spectral Echo? It sounds like it could be something similar judging by the "100% chance to activate Spectral Echo for 30 seconds.". But a 100% chance when what happens? With normal attacks only or with skills aswell? Or do you activate it manually? Since it has a 10 second cooldown but lasts 30 seconds, can it stack several buffs?

Frost Shield, when activated, automatically gives you 75% knockback resistance and a certain amount of damage reduction. On top of that, when you get hit, it has a chance to activate a little wave of frost that will slow down enemies around you.

Spectral Echo is a buff that gives your normal attack a 100% chance to proc a frontal aoe that does a set % of your weapon's DPS. So you do your normal attack as usual, but in addition you have an aoe that fires when you do it.

I'm not certain that answered my question... I'm already aware that only vanilla (e.g. normal) attacks proc life leech effects. What I don't know is how spectral echo works; from the previous poster's suggestion, it's summoned & does its own thing, which would allow you to do your own attacks simultanously?

What happens is that when you have the buff on you and do a normal attack, a spectral wave bursts out from your attack. Your normal attack still happens (and leeches) and on top of this the spectral wave is spawned (which doesnt leech unless using a mod previously mentioned).

Which is kind of sad, since the point of going for Spectral Echo is for more of a defensive build, but it doesn't restore health. =[
(You're going to want to be using Spectral Echo to attack without being in melee range.)

No, the point of going for Spectral echo is just to be doing some AoE damage while using your regular attacks...

Yeah you're right I misunderstood.

Tell you what though, I started a Destroyer and I'm using that leech mod - when I pick up Echo I'll test it and report back.

Your normal attack will still leech, yes.

You won't get additional leech from the aoe hits, though, unless you're using a mod that makes it happen.

Is spectral Echo like frost shield in that you need to keep activating it to have it available? Or is it passive once you have the ability its always there for your regular attacks?

Yeah you need to keep activating it, and the cooldown is only 10 sec so you need to stay on top of it. But because the cooldown is less than the duration you can stack spectral echo and get some good damage output.

Ok, I'm back.

My Destroyer is now level 44. I tested Spectral Echo, and even with a mod, the Echo attacks don't leech. And it only procs off auto attacks. Meh. I instead put 10 points in Devastate...with leech mod you just cannot die. I'm having so much fun. Way more fun than the Alchemist.

The leech life works with spectral echo with no mods. I only have the respec potion mode installed, and the spectral echo leeches life when i hit enemies with the normal attack that triggers the eco.
