You also need to delete "massfile.dat", "masterresourceunits.dat" and their '.adm' files from "%appdata%\runic games\torchlight". That way, the game rechecks all the mods again. Starting up the game will take a bit longer than usual the first time, but that's only once. If the stat reset potions still aren't in the inventory of the general merchant, try leaving town for a while and returning, to allow him to restock.
It should work then. If not, please let me know, I'll look into it further.

Also, TorchLeech, a very useful mod-managing tool, published a top ten of most-downloaded mods in November, and I noticed the 'Total Respec' mod at number 5. Thanks to everybody who downloaded it, you made my day :D

'Total Respec' should work through TorchLeech. I use it that way myself :)
Maybe there's another mod conflicting with it. Do you have any other mods that change the General Merchant's inventory?

Total respec is only mod i have installed. I just tested torchleech with others =)

Do i have to delete something myself when using torchleech or is clicking install enough?

EDIT: Does this have anything to do with anything?

It seems like the files of your download of the 'Total Respec' mod were encoded wrong...
Is that the log of the game, or from TorchLeech?
The only thing I can recommend is trying to uninstall and redownload the mod. Did you edit any of the files by hand?

That's from the OGRE logfile what torchleech opens. I've reinstalled this mod more than i can remember witch no success. Never altered files or even opened them and i've also downloaded from different websites. So far this is only mod i cant get to work and only one i want to use =D

@zrx: Our new conflict check detects the same issue as logged in ogre log.

TorchLeech - Conflict check results:
FILE ENCODING: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1)' @ GreaterStatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\GreaterStatResetPotion.dat'
FILE ENCODING: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1)' @ LegendaryStatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\LegendaryStatResetPotion.dat'
FILE ENCODING: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1)' @ LesserStatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\LesserStatResetPotion.dat'
FILE ENCODING: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1)' @ respecpotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\respecpotion.dat'
FILE ENCODING: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1)' @ StatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\StatResetPotion.dat'

For this, the mod files in the list above are no UTF16/UCS-2 encoded files. I'm really sure that this mod was doing the job but maybe Didero want to fix this for his mod himself.

It's not working for me. I had previously gotten the 'official' runic respec mod (for skill points only). However, when I came across this one, I deleted the other mod and put this one in the mod folder instead. The other respec mod worked for me, but this one does not. I don't see any new potions in the vender. I reloaded my character three times. Went in and out of dungeons twice and restarted the game twice. The potions still do not show up. I also tried uninstalling all of my other mods and leaving just this one. Still doesn't work. Any ideas?

I downloaded the package from RGF/TInsider again and all files are broken within encoding. Version 1.1 can not work in this way. Every second byte in DAT files are #0 bytes - sound like a unicode type but this encode should not work with Torchlight. We have the strict rule not to change any mod files but in this case we don't alter any content in dat files.

We have fixed this bug and updated this mod in TLeech with the version "1.1-fix". What we have not fixed are missing GUIDs (see "Item mods: make sure your items have set GUIDs!" for more details). Not critical for a potion mod but nevertheless worth to fix if Didero touches the package for correct encoding.

TorchLeech - Conflict check results:
NO GUID FOUND: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1-fix)' @ GreaterStatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\GreaterStatResetPotion.dat'
NO GUID FOUND: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1-fix)' @ LegendaryStatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\LegendaryStatResetPotion.dat'
NO GUID FOUND: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1-fix)' @ LesserStatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\LesserStatResetPotion.dat'
NO GUID FOUND: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1-fix)' @ respecpotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\respecpotion.dat'
NO GUID FOUND: 'Total Respec Mod (1.1-fix)' @ StatResetPotion.dat --- 'media\units\items\potions\StatResetPotion.dat'

Oh man.
Thanks for finding the problem. I don't know why it works for some people but not for others. For instance, I don't get any errors at all and the potions show up fine. I'll try to fix it immediately. Sorry for all the trouble, guys.
Maybe I only made the top downloads list because people were retrying to install so often :P

Yeah, I didn't set the GUIDs because I didn't think people would buy a respec potion and then go walking around with it. Mostly, you'd use a potion like this immediately after buying. So the chance of losing a potion after reinstalling this mod is rather small, in my opinion. And without GUIDs there's no chance of my mod conflicting with another mod with the same GUID either.
If we as a community can work out a good way to assing GUIDs to items in mods I'll add them, but I don't think it's really necessary for now.

Re: Total Respec mod, updated

Postby Didero » Thu Dec 10, 2009 7:19 am

Ok, I updated the mod. I ended up remaking the entire mod in TorchED, to make sure the files are encoded properly. The potions are assigned a GUID now, because I didn't want to manually edit the files to remove them and run the risk of causing the same problem again. But like TorchLeech pointed out, the chance of a conflict is minuscule.

The links in the first post point to the latest version, version 1.2. Or you can click here to download the new version from Torchlight Insider or Runic Games Fansite.
Be sure to delete any older versions of 'Total Respec' before installing this one.

I didn't run into any problems with this new version, so I hope the bug is solved now. If not, please let me know!

I think this mod would be more popular and better recieved if you just gave us 1 potion to reset all stats for a similiar price to the respec potion. This isn't really what I was looking for.

It's one of the most often downloaded mods, so I don't think there's much of a popularity problem ;)

There isn't a way to reset stats to the starting values, like there is for skills. The only way to change stats is relative, like the stat potions already do.
I would've added the option for a complete stat reset if I knew how :)

As for the price, you can easily change that to suit your needs. Just navigate to the mod folder (if you've installed it through TorchLeech, click 'Extra'-> 'Open MOD directory' to get there), and navigate to the "TotalRespecMod" folder. Then go to the "media\units\items\potions" subfolder. Open the file of the potion you want to change the price of with your text editor (the Windows default Notepad will do just fine). If you want a quick stat respec, I suggest using "legendarystatresetelixer.dat" since that gives back the most statpoints. Then change the value behind "<INTEGER>VALUE:" to something lower. Runic's skill respec potion uses a value of 3000, so if you want the same price as that use the same value. Save the changes. If you want to lower the price of the other potions too, just repeat the same procedure for those files.
Finally run the "remove_binary.bat" file in the "TotalRespecMod" folder, so the game will recognise the changes you've made.
Potions should be cheaper now, have fun :)
If they're not, try leaving the town for a few minutes and then return, so the merchants reset their stock.

Any chance for a beefier potion?

One that resets like 50 points from each section, making a total of 200 points.

That would fix my problem with it at the moment.

I thought about doing that, but if I still wanted the 1, 2, 5 and 10 point reduction variants, you'd end up with 4*4=16 extra potions, which I thought was a bit excessive. I could perhaps remove either the 1 point or the 2 point reduction potion, but you'd still have 12 extra potions then.
You can still use the current potions though. When stats go into the negative, all your equipment will be returned to your inventory, but when you increase the stats back to one, you can re-equip your items. Just don't quit the game with negative stats, I don't know what happens then.
Also, you didn't even invest in Defense a little? You're braver than I am then :)

I could add a bigger potion, yeah. Especially when you're using the mod that extents the maximum level I can imagine stat points getting rather large.
I'll just have to think of a good name, and find some time in between studying for finals.

Also, should I lower the price of all my potions? After comparing them with the skill respec potion, they seem rather expensive.

I think the prices should be lowered, a lot of people want this mod so that they can shift their stats around to adhere to their gear while being able to optimize their damage/defense.

I don't think they want to spend 60K each time they do that, I don't.

Yea I'm level 60 and seriously reducing only 10 points at a time is a bit inconvenient :/ if only there was a way to say "Reduces all stats by 10%" kind of thing, that way the price could be balanced over all levels.

i would literaly do you a blowjob if you could make 4 potions as that. one per atribute please. each of them decrease the coresponding atribute by one and give one feee stat point in exchange

Slightly inappropriate but I'd have to agree Irbis.

Does make more sense, and would make it quicker.
