Looks pretty good Revility.
I was going to post what I put together in past hour and I found this thread and figured it would fit well in here.
Below are some screenshots of how an outside world can be created using the existing tilesets, props, etc in the game. Sure it doesn't look at pretty, but it works for the most part. I threw this together in an hour, so be easy on the lackluster design....

Final set of props have been added and its in final testing :) Theres around 105 tiles and 90 props now. Grave yard pieces have been added. Time to hunt down blood raven :P

Here are a couple of screen shots using a modified lava ruleset instead of the mines. This gives it a more warm, fallish feel.

I posted my quick sample outdoor level here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=10529
The eaiest thing to do in ourdoor maps is just select PROPS in your Palette and go nuts. I don't remember exactly wher the boulders are located, but I think there are 7 types embedded in the prop. Oh, and some props don't have collision so you have to make you you hide an invisible object to act as the collider.

Going to give that map a try tonight, looks really cool and different from what I've been doing.

Here is the first public build for everyone to try out. Let me know if there are any problems with it. Make sure you check the included read me file which has a few notes about installing and using it in torched.

CliffSide build 1.0.0 mod db Download link

If anyone else would like to mirror it, please feel free to do so.

Cheers! :D

Here's what I've managed for outside areas

I used the green ground tiles from sunken temple for the ground, mine pieces for walls and cliffs and town plants for plants.

Thanks for the tileset! I'm gonna give it a try now but was wondering, is there any way to add a 'Cliffside' filter to the palette list? I added the room tag and the pieces show up but I can't filter it to show only cliffside pieces.

Great tile set, love it.

Also something I'd love to see in any future releases are maybe a log or two that would lay horizontal on the ground and some, haha, cute woodland critters. I know theres some fireflies and stuff already in game. I'm gonna give it a try if I ever get around to learning how to use blender.

Edit: Also, bonfire_03 seems to have a collision glitch.

WIP Forest/Mountain level with your tileset. Sorry the video is a little low quality, I should probably get fraps next time.

Edit: New Video With some small modifications to the first two chunks as well as a new chunk:

The only issues I have had, like you said in the read me, is the alpha fighting.

that first part in video looks amazing..
those trims in second part are not so pleasant.. maybe try putting some plants or some trees at the edges

Thanks for the compliments guys! But the true credit goes to revility =] @dusho, I agree completely but I'm still learning the limitations with the custom pieces, theres a lot of alpha issues when putting most of anything near the trim (above, below, in front, behind) as well as plants or trees that extend above the main floors range. I've definitely been struggling with the wall/cap/trim pieces and fitting them in and making them look nice but I will figure something out.

Also, I've made a couple modifications and added another chunk today. Everything still needs a lot of work but im gonna upload another video later to replace the first one.

Edit: Added a new video to the original post.

Watched the vids and it looked great. Can't wait to try this out :D

What was the matter with the collision for bonfire 3? Maybe I put the wrong one on there :?:

Next to the lava tileset, this one has the most issues with the z fighting :(
Really hope Runic either patches this, or adds an option to support multiple alphas along the z axis.

If your looking for a free alternative to fraps, try xfire:
http://www.xfire.com/
records vids, screenshots, and has built in instant message support. Unlike steam, it works with almost everygame, uses less resources and also connects to AIM.

Thanks! I am working on finishing this section up so I can make a testable package, but my plans for this is a bit bigger than one small dungeon. Should be fun =] I will let everyone know when this section is ready for some testing.

With the bonfire I was just able to walk right through the entire thing. I think there was one little section where you could tell it was colliding, from one approach angle, but my character just walked over it.

I hope they patch it too. I've been able to work around some of it by repositioning things or putting extra grass tiles underneath other objects (mostly for fixing some of the plants transparencies since it bleeds through and inherits the grass texture which creates a glitchy organic green blend but it's better looking then the sky mesh bleeding through).

I actually had xfire for a little bit when I was playing DFO, it was a promotional contest to sign up with xfire to be entered in a raffle. But I never messed around with it and didn't realize it could do all that! I'll have to get it again.
